Senior Software Engineer - Core Search

As a Senior Engineer on the Search team I worked on Carmen (https://github.com/mapbox/carmen), our in-house search engine. I worked on multiple projects that drastically improved the Search infrastructure and results. Examples include:

* Refactoring Carmen and porting over computationally expensive spatial and ranking algorithms from Javascript to Rust (https://github.com/mapbox/carmen-core)

* Led the work to improve developer experience and reduce costs associated with running the Search Infrastructure

* Worked as a Senior Engineer to build out new Search APIs powered by multiple engines written entirely in Rust, containerized and running on AWS

* Worked on multiple improvements to our in-house Search Engine to improve search ranking and relevance

* Led and worked on multiple improvements to the search infrastructure, making it possible for the search service to be able to scale to handle 10M req/min

The Search team builds Mapbox's location search and manages the data that powers it. We expand coverage, find data, run benchmarks, squish bugs, and launch features. Our team has built everything from sophisticated server infrastructure and mobile apps to tiny, useful open-source libraries. Our team has to balance building for the future, concrete customer needs and the messiness of real world data. It's a fascinating set of problems.
