CTO, then CEO @ Insight Browser (acquired by Scale AI) Jan 2019 – Jan 2023 Insight was originally (2018-19) an answer engine doctors could use for complex clinical queries, kind of like OpenEvidence or ChatGPT do today, but before the tech was quite ready. Nevertheless, we had 1M DAUs and 10M downloads. For distribution, we pivoted to build the first extensible browser for iOS. Extensions for Insight and it's sister app Hyperweb for Safari can be built directly on the phone and enable a range of applications such as ad blocking, intelligent annotations and alternatives, all delivered without the need for installing extensions and 100% on-device privacy. I was one of 3 co-founders, fundraised (YC W19 + seed), built the product and engineering teams. Each app has an install base in the millions and was showcased by Apple, FastCo and TechCrunch amongst others. ### Product Team Lead @ Quora Jan 2014 – Jan 2019 | Mountain View I led the teams for Quora Spaces and Sessions. I owned a large product surface area of Geo-related features. • Chose metrics and build dashboards to measure quality (metadata, photos, location accuracy) and coverage of Facebook's Places Database, which powers check-ins and local places discovery. • Owned and executed pipelines to improve above metrics and deduplicate places • Owned the reverse geocoder that auto-applies locations to Facebook posts. • Initiated Instagram's migration from the Foursquare places database to Facebook's (and got to pair program with Mike Krieger for a day!) ### First Engineer @ Duolingo Jan 2009 – Jan 2009 | Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States I was one of two engineers that worked on Duolingo while it was called "Monolingo". Back then, it was a research project at CMU that Luis and Severin started. Bradley and I started the same day were the first two engineers on it. Many important decisions were made by us all in these days, such as whether the now iconic Duo the owl should stay or go.
