Contextual inquiries - onsite visits with plant managers in different industries (Pharmaceutical, Power Generation, Aluminum and Water treatment) to define required functionalities to address their needs. UX/UI design - produced the wireframes, functional specifications, mockups and artwork required for the first release of the first mobile application developed by OSIsoft, PI Coresight for the iPad, launched in January 2013. Usability studies - conducted throughout conception and development stages. ### Human Computer Interaction Research Fellow @ McGill University - Shared Reality Lab Jan 2008 – Jan 2012 Design researcher and interaction designer for the Open Orchestra project, the musical equivalent of an aircraft simulator that gives a musician a realistic experience of playing with an orchestra. Collaborator in research projects including: the Health Services Virtual Organization (HSVO), a platform for medical simulation and training; and the in situ audio services project (ISAS), an eyes-free mobile system designed to give blind users a better sense of their surroundings. Ethnographic studies with Symphony and Big Band orchestras to better understand how musicians interact within their peers and the conductor during a rehearsal process. This helped to define the functionalities developed for Open Orchestra. The results were summarized through a mental model of the rehearsal process. This project gained attention from the Cirque Du Soleil as a training tool for their singers and musicians. Interaction design - produced workflows, wireframes, prototypes, scripts and screener questionnaires for the conception and testing of the HSVO project with medical students and residents. This allowed us to conduct medical training sessions across the Atlantic between Ireland and Canada. Empathy research methods and Usability studies - conducted for the ISAS project. These studies inspired a novel method of rendering points of interest to blind people via smartphone devices. ### Interaction Designer @ Bluesponge Jan 2006 – Jan 2008 Interaction designer in award winning projects for the Canadian Centre for Architecture, Sorry out of Gas, and the Montreal Canadiens 100 years. UX design - produced sketches, information architecture documentation, workflows, functional specifications, competitive analysis, personas and wireframes for the conception and development of several projects. Strategy - actively collaborated with the team at Bluesponge in the production of pitch proposals to win various clients. The Montreal Canadiens 100 years was awarded with the Annual Communicator Award, the Webby's 13th Annual Honoree and the Web Marketing Association. The Canadian Centre for Architecture was chosen as the 2011 Webby Award nominee, and the web pick of the day by Communication Arts. ### Interaction Designer (contract basis) @ Cognitive Group Jan 2005 – Jan 2008 UX/UI design - produced the wireframes, mockups and artwork required for the development and enhancement of iFollow.ca, a web application that monitors tasks and recurring activities in an interactive timeline. Usability studies - conducted usability studies for various financial institutions in Quebec. ### Postdoctoral Research Fellow, McGill Vision Research @ McGill University Jan 2003 – Jan 2005 Developed an algorithm able to render shading and reflectance images based on color perception theories. Designed and conducted Psychophysics experiments to study the role of shading and reflectance cues in the perception and recognition of faces. Modeled the perception of geometric and noise transformations in natural images. During this time, also designed and developed the McGill Calibrated Colour Image Database for visual perception research purposes. ## Education ### PhD in Computer Vision & Pattern Recognition Heriot-Watt University Jan 1999 – Jan 2002 ### Leading by Design Fellows Program CCA Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 ### Bachelors in Electronics Engineering & Telecommunications Universidad Iberoamericana Jan 1994 – Jan 1999 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/adrianaolmos - Portfolio: http://www.adrianaolmos.com --- Source: https://flows.cv/adriana JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/adriana/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-30
