# Ahmed Ayoub > Product designer, published author | 4+ years in startups including full stack UX design, design systems, design ops Location: Jersey City, New Jersey, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/ahmedayoub I believe in harnessing the power of lived experiences with the practice of design to create solutions that enhance people's lives in inclusive ways, in ways that matter. I leverage my skills and experience designing in startup environments for over 4 years and my past lives in in biomedical engineering, clinical research, and education to ensure a holistic approach and final product that satisfies the business, our team(s), the target audience, and my standard of quality. Curious to know the full story of how my prior backgrounds brought me to the design practice? Read the more detailed account of the journey in the 'Featured' section! Beyond my professional and academic backgrounds, I am inspired by more than just pixel-perfect and purposeful design. I lean on art, nature, cooking, writing, even gaming at times, to broaden my design perspective while simultaneously sharpening my eye and perception of what makes design more than just 'pretty,' but positively impactful. As such, I believe in these design philosophies when doing the work: - Maximize help, minimize harm - Team-centric >>> ego-centric - Intentionality & inclusivity If I've piqued your interest, let's chat about working together to build or enhance your (or our) user experience or product vision! -------------------------------- ✨Some random facts about me: - In my past life as a biomedical engineering undergrad, our senior design team developed a cost-effective (~$250) tibial cutting guide proof-of-concept, winning 3rd place among a total of 30 projects. - In my past life in clinical research at NYU Langone Health, I helped take 2 clinical studies to their recruitment targets, one being conducted locally and the other an international years-long study. - for any ⚽ fans out there, Mohamed Salah and I have the same birthday (and ethnicity!) ## Work Experience ### Product Designer @ Beam Benefits Jan 2021 – Jan 2025 - Revamped Beam's approach to design system governance and collaboration with the UI engineering team, resulting in greater parity between Figma design system and developer repository, process alignment, and WCAG accessibility compliance for both systems - Co-facilitated and led usability tests and co-creation sessions with UX research team and relevant stakeholders to uncover problem spaces and insights to inform design direction of key projects - Synthesized new digital experiences as sole designer and with other designers and UXR to ease the process of understanding and obtaining insurance coverage for employees, as well as broker and internal tooling that more easily facilitates data management. Projects include: ---> BeamElect, a tool to help employees make informed decisions about their insurance coverage needs, resulting in an average increase of 18% in ancillary benefit enrollments ---> A digitized evidence of insurance (EOI) medical questionnaire experience for requesting additional life insurance coverage ---> Designing an in-app experience in Lighthouse, Beam's broker/group-facing system, to add and manage a company's employees ---> Designed an enhanced census enrollment experience for internal and external facing tools that would parse and 'smart-match' census files to a standardized table with inline editing capabilities, guiding users through potential errors and formatting issues ### UX Design Intern @ Beam Benefits Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 - Redesigned a web-based feature of Beam Dental's services with a team of product designers, a product manager, and developers to aid in further driving in-network dentist utilization. This redesign reduced average search time from (up to) 5 minutes to approximately 30 seconds - Conducted usability tests on proposed redesign concepts to identify opportunities for improvement in flow, functionality, and layout - Created component sets and documentation for a badge label and a slider to be added to the company design system, thereby streamlining future design and development workflows ### Product Designer @ Pledgr Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 - Sketched, iterated, and tested concepts for the product's profile account and settings experiences - Led and organized creation of the first iteration of Pledgr's design system ### UX/UI Designer @ InPathDetroit Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 - As part of a small startup team, I designed platforms that help local residents in the Detroit area gain access to internships, online finances, and health & wellness - I was primarily responsible for information architecture, wireframing/sketching, and high-fidelity clickable prototypes - Our product and service concepts have granted InPathDetroit a Grow With Google Partner status ### UX Design Program @ Bloc Jan 2019 – Jan 2020 Learned industry best practices and design process standards with a focus on UX Research, Visual Design, and Front-end development and applied those practices to generate deliverable products.
