• Worked on the Query Planning team optimizing query plans for execution on the distributed system
• Enabled the migration of query plans to a new execution path to further leverage the capabilities of the distributed backend system
• Developed a solution to dynamically resolve type differences between the various backend systems, allowing more queries to be optimized using the planning framework

• Worked on the DatadogSQL team to bring a new SQL-like query system to life
• Modified the parser and grammar to add functionality for aliasing, multi-line comments, and query plans via “explain analyze”
• Developed a solution to identify and handle incomplete table scans in the backend systems due to memory constraints and alert users when such truncation resulted in inaccurate data being returned

• Worked on the Looker Production Infrastructure team to develop a comprehensive solution for automatic scaling of customers’ cloud instances to handle fluctuating loads, prevent outages, and relieve DevOps of the toil of having to manually resize instances (nearly 1,000 work hours annually)
• Designed and implemented 4 algorithms which proactively detected the need for increased resources (such as CPU, memory, and replica pods) before customers experienced prolonged performance issues on their Looker instances
• Developed a research framework (with a command line interface and visualizations) to simulate the actions of my automatic scaling algorithms over various historical time periods and customer instances to demonstrate their immense value: efficient resource usage, immediate remediation of performance issues, significantly less outages, and reduced reliance on manual scaling

• Worked on the Merchant Funds Management team to define and implement 4 new features on the PayPal web application for high-value merchants with international footprints
• Added endpoints to the backend layer and developed middleware to provide efficient access to important aggregation data which would help merchants manage hundreds of international accounts
