# Akhil Chaturvedi > Generative AI for psychology Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/akhilchaturvedi I am passionate about using data and machine learning to create human-centric solutions that cover sleep, cognitive science, education, language, audio, vision, and neuroscience. My focus is on applying solutions to behavioral data science and health/wellness, covering Natural language processing, Knowledge Graphs, Recommendation Systems, and Deep learning. Over the past year, my efforts have specialized in applying various methods in artificial intelligence to conversational methods (text, voice, knowledge systems) as well as building end-to-end machine learning-based product ecosystems or platforms. ## Work Experience ### Staff Machine Learning Engineer @ Headspace Jan 2023 – Present | San Francisco, California, United States Digitizing mental health one AI model at a time. 🤙🏽 ### Senior Machine Learning Engineer @ Headspace Jan 2021 – Present | San Francisco, California, United States ### Senior Machine Learning Engineer @ Ginger Jan 2020 – Jan 2022 | San Francisco Bay Area Ginger is reinventing mental healthcare by coupling data science and virtual delivery to provide immediate, personal support for anyone. Care from our on-demand mental health system is delivered through the Ginger app, available on iOS and Android, where members can conveniently connect with Ginger’s team of behavioral health coaches - 24/7, 365 days a year. For those in need of additional support, a therapist or psychiatrist can be added to their care team. Over half a million people have access to Ginger through leading employers, health plans, and other partners. The World Economic Forum has identified Ginger’s AI technology as a Technology Pioneer, and the company was recognized as one of the top 10 Most Innovative Companies in Healthcare by Fast Company. ### Engineer - machine learning @ Philips Jan 2018 – Jan 2020 | Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Key responsibilites: 1. Driving innovation by building rapid prototypes for experimentation 2. Leveraging statistics, natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning (ML) techniques to create scalable solutions for business problems, customer engagement and personalized solutions 3. Developing and implementing predictive models for real time predictions 4. Building real-time software applications using latest technologies 5. Collaborating directly with universities (Carnegie Mellon and UPMC), research institutes and industry experts in the field to leverage their guidance and expertise to solve customer needs 6. Analyzing and extracting relevant information from large amounts data (structured and unstructured) to help define customer needs and solutions 7. Partnering with marketing, design and research staff to optimize operations and solutions using AI and NLP 8. Generate Intellectual Property relevant to the business needs 9. Act as technology consultant in field of Artificial Intelligence ### Graduate Student Researcher @ Carnegie Mellon University Jan 2016 – Jan 2018 | Greater Pittsburgh Area I am developing deep learning algorithms, which can diagnose sleep problems from patient audio data, enabling the creation of a portable, wearable device to detect sleep apnea. ### Deep Learning Intern, Advanced Innovations @ Philips Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | Greater Pittsburgh Area 1. Responsible for deep learning algorithms to detect various sleep states. 2. Portability for deep learning models for real-time embedded devices. ### Junior Research Fellow, Instrumentation and Applied Physics @ Indian Institute of Science Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 | Bangalore 1. Developing deep neural networks based algorithms to assess the mental task workload of aircraft pilots using their electroencephalographic(EEG) activity in different flight conditions. 2. Responsible both for the data collection (on flight simulator) and computational analysis of the EEG signals. ### Researcher, Computer Vision and Microfluidics @ Indian Institute of Science Jan 2015 – Jan 2016 | Bengaluru Area, India • Developed vision algorithms to track flowing cells, ultimately to detect cancers. • Invented a novel automated sample preparation method for microfluidic flow cytometric applications using miniature vibrational motors. ### Research Intern, Center for Neurosciences @ Indian Institute of Science Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 | Bengaluru Area, India Developed a classification algorithm (matlab) for electromyogram (EMG) signals to understand causation of motor activity in forearm of primates. ### Research Intern, Neuroengineering @ Singapore Institute for Neurotechnology (SINAPSE) Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 Quantifying inter-subject connectivity using EEG hyperscanning techniques - SINAPSE, NUS, Singapore In this study we illustrate a methodology able to follow and study concurrent and simultaneous brain processes during cooperation between individuals, with non invasive EEG methodologies. Multivariate Autoregressive (MVAR )and granger causality based connectivity measure were applied to inter subject hyperscanning data to ascertain degree of connectivity between coorperating subjects. ### Undergraduate Intern, Neuroengineering @ National Institute Of Advanced Studies Jan 2013 – Jan 2013 Co-creator of "BrainTone" EEG device" The BrainTone was designed to test the limits of perceptual adaptability; to test if we can really adapt to perceiving through any kind of sensor. It basically broadcasts the brainwaves of one person (collected by a scalp EEG), as audible sound waves for others to listen to. The hope is that a person can hear things in another's brainwaves, the way a wildlife biologist can hear things in animal and bird calls. If it does in fact work this way, it should open up a whole new experiential, and scientific, world to explore! ### Internship @ Orchid Biomedical Systems Jan 2012 – Jan 2012 | Goa, India Studied and compiled rapid immunohistology based diagnostic assays created by the Orchid group for malaria and HIV. ### Graphic Designer @ SHArP Edge Learning Jan 2011 – Jan 2011 Designed illustrative graphics for digital education tools in the early stages of the start-up. Worked closely with animators to create GIFs to enable physics lessons to be more interactive. ## Education ### Master’s Degree in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering Carnegie Mellon University Jan 2016 – Jan 2018 ### Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering and Biology Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani Jan 2010 – Jan 2015 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/akhilchats25 --- Source: https://flows.cv/akhilchaturvedi JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/akhilchaturvedi/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-25
