# Alexander Hill > Software Engineer @ Nominal | ex-Palantir Location: New York, New York, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/alexanderhill ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Nominal Jan 2024 – Present | New York, New York, United States ### Software Engineer @ Palantir Technologies Jan 2018 – Jan 2024 | New York, New York, United States ### Forward Deployed Engineer @ Palantir Technologies Jan 2016 – Jan 2018 ### Lead Routing Engineer @ PIE Mapping Jan 2015 – Jan 2015 Lead the creation of a routing engine for Pie's 450 UK customers, including DPD. Based on the open source Java routing engine GraphHopper, I implemented support for height, weight, width and length restrictions, as well as temporal and legal restrictions required for routing freight vehicles. I designed and implemented a customised version of the A* routing algorithm that was able to track the journey time and block roads as necessary. I used Docker to manage the build & deployment process, and wrote an additional service in Go to manage load balancing and handle external data requirements without impacting the performance of the engine itself. ### Intern @ Hailo Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 Wrote tools for Hailo's new Go microservices platform using React.js, Backbone.js and the Flux architecture. I created apps to provision and monitor services, and a realtime dashboard for the platform team. The dashboard graphed the platform's performance, and showed healthchecks and other vital information. I also worked on their payments system, creating an interface for ad hoc payments in conjunction with the customer service team to make the tool accessible and easy to use. ### Intern @ Memrise Jan 2013 – Jan 2013 I built a multiplayer game using the Memrise API that allowed players to test each other on their knowledge of vocabulary. Node.js and Socket.io were used for realtime communication between browsers, as well as a custom game engine running on top of Backbone.js. I learnt how to work in an effective team to build a complex piece of software. ### Software Engineer @ CodeCogs Jan 2012 – Jan 2012 CodeCogs is an online repository of information related to engineering & mathematics. They also run the worlds most popular online LaTeX rendering software, and have a product called fxRender that integrates with Excel to help visualise equations. I was tasked with building a renderer for the maths mode of LaTeX to replace the online renderer in fxRender. Whilst learning C#, I rewrote the parser and much of the renderer, adding in support for a wide range of mathematical modes, including summations, matrices, fractions and different display styles. ### Researcher @ Zyba Jan 2012 – Jan 2012 | London Zyba are working on an underwater paddle that will harness wave power to generate energy. I used the Raspberry Pi and PyMCU to start the creation motor-control system to maximise the power efficiency of the paddle. I also assisted in the testing process of the paddle, programming the wave machine as well as recording and analysing the data. I was able to use my mathematical skills to aid the analysis of the data, whilst learning about the complexities of modelling the ocean. ## Education ### Master of Engineering (MEng) in Computer Science University of Bristol Jan 2012 – Jan 2016 ### King Alfred School Jan 2001 – Jan 2012 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/alxhill --- Source: https://flows.cv/alexanderhill JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/alexanderhill/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-20
