# Alexander Johnston > Software Developer | Data Entry Specialist Location: Frederick, Maryland, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/alexanderjohnston Check out my articles on: https://medium.com/@alexanderj.roaming I am an active and self-motivated programmer currently focused in developing practical solutions to daily technology usage problems. I enjoy building automations and making useful things for people. At all times in that pursuit, I strive to be empathetic and driven by solving the user's problem. For me it's more about the people I help than the code I write. My current duties could be described as software developer, but lately I have been mentored under multiple architects at different companies and see myself going down that route. In my free time I like to study cloud environments and basic DevOps. I have been hosting servers for people since I was just 11 years old across more iterations of Linux and Windows than I can count, and I've always done it for free because it is a passion of mine. My current topic of study is quantum programming. I have worked with IBM Quantum and Q# and I am currently working to apply some of that logic back to classical programming in a useful way related to multithreading. I have been tackling this subject for several years now on and off, but I believe we're currently at the forefront of that field. Before this I studied Bluetooth hardware integration with .NET Core, and I plan to continue with that in the future. I have also written extensively about building micro-services using multi-threading models like the Actor pattern and Event Sourcing principles. While not studying, I enjoy participating in web groups to help students and new programmers get into the field. I provide advice for job seekers and help them diagnose and critique issues with their work. I have what it takes to work with driven individuals from all backgrounds, either as a follower with valuable skills to make their lives easier, or as a leader with patience and drive to listen to them and seek out a mutual solution. In general, I aim to learn a new programming skill every two weeks and the basics of a new major framework every three months. In-between I work on side projects, many of which are posted to my GitHub account, and many others which are closed source. I also study computational mathematics, digital rendering, and disassembly of software both at the assembly and runtime level. I stay up to date on news related to .NET, C# language, and Microsoft and I participate in the Preview releases of .NET Core. Some of my primary skills are C#, .NET Core, ASP.NET, PowerShell, and a deep history of experience with Microsoft technology. ## Work Experience ### Senior Software Engineer @ SambaSafety Jan 2022 – Jan 2024 | Colorado, United States Providing software design expertise to a 25 year old monolith stack in .NET, utilizing a wide array of technologies to support company operations ### Co-Founder / Owner @ Chronologic LLC Jan 2022 – Jan 2022 Attempted to start my own software company with a trusted coworker and friend. ### Senior Software Engineer @ Underwriters Laboratories Inc. I needed a project for practice, and so did many others. I built a successful web community of 500 users with 100 active daily logins. To make this possible, I recruited a team of programming students to build it together. We constructed all of our own back end based on a proprietary code language (byond), and front end systems using a Linux, Nginx, MySQL, PHP stack (LEMP). This was a way of learning how to be a part of a team and work together on a release schedule. Eventually we all outgrew the project as our skills became more marketable, so we handed off what we learned to other members of the community and closed our doors. After proving to myself that I have what it takes to program in the real world, I decided to move on to Engage, USA where I could gather new experience and prove to them the difference that my skills make when it comes to providing skill with fast turnaround on learning. ### Data Entry @ Spherion Jan 2013 – Jan 2013 | Music & Arts - Frederick, MD Temporary contract position 3 months, extended to 5 months.
