# Alexander Liotta (He, Him) > Staff Software Engineer at Astronomer Location: United States, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/alexanderliottahehim I am a passionate software engineer who loves working on problems spanning the full stack. I have experience developing applications for the web and desktop environments using technologies including Golang, Node, Python, Typescript, React, Vue, Java, Postgres, and related technologies. I thoroughly enjoy writing software that is reliable, maintainable, and extensible using DRY principles and the agile process. ## Work Experience ### Staff Software Engineer @ Astronomer Jan 2021 – Present ### Senior Software Engineer @ Shippo Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 ### Engineering Manager @ Zume Inc. Jan 2019 – Jan 2020 - Led and mentored a team of 9 software engineers responsible for order data ingress and integrations - Integrated with order marketplaces with Zume’s smart kitchen ecosystem (KDS) using a nodejs typescript backend - Developed order logistic api’s spanning multiple microservices and used by a android/ios order fulfillment application - Secured backend api’s using apigee gateway combined with an OAuth authentication strategy - Architected a node module that exposes Kubernetes health probes that ensures the health of microservice dependencies - Maintained and scaled both the frontend and backend of Zume’s subsidiary brand, Zume Pizza - Rewrote order placement process from a synchronous to an asynchronous procedure and moved it to its own microservice - Ensured system stability by implementing New Relic alerts that monitored Zume’s entire suite of microservices - Wrote unit, integration, end to end, performance, and mutation tests to ensure the maintainability of authored code ### Lead Software Engineer @ Zume Inc. Jan 2018 – Jan 2020 | San Francisco Bay Area ### Full Stack Software Engineer @ Tesla Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 | Fremont ### Software Engineer @ Zume Pizza, Inc. Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 | Mountain View Lead engineer on a software project that assists us in solving the traveling salesman problem by interfacing with an external API, MileZero. In order for the MileZero constraint solver to work many parameters need to be updated as they change so the solver has a clear view of what our world (world view) looks like; including driver availability, product availability, order placement, customer location, the physical location of products, etc. On top of these concerns the clients, our delivery drivers and dispatch team, need to be updated about the assignment and planning progress of each order. The backend portion of the project uses a node worker process that receives messages via rabbitmq that then go about updating MileZero via an http request about the changes to the world view. Many of the responses from the MileZero api are immediately acking and the final result of the transaction gets returned on a webhook. Data about the world view is stored both in our Postgres database when we need long term storage and our redis database when we are looking for short term storage. The front end portion of the application is built using Angular.js and twitter bootstrap. It uses websockets to deal with the asynchronous nature of many of the api calls. For instance the MileZero planner takes around 60 seconds to replan an order (find a new driver if the one selected doesn’t work out). Thus our backend api sends an immediately acking response to the client telling them they heard their request and when the MileZero api returns a response we update the client via websocket. ### Technical Sales Associate @ Sungevity Jan 2013 – Jan 2015 | Oakland ### Associate Engineer @ ATS RheoSystems / Reologica Jan 2012 – Jan 2013 | Bordentown, NJ ### REU- Research Assitant @ The University of Massachusetts Amherst Jan 2010 – Jan 2010 | Amherst, MA Researched the application of ontologies to product life-cycle management software Windchill. ### Lifeguard @ Water's Edge Beach Club Jan 2009 – Jan 2009 ## Education ### Bachelor's degree in an individual conecentration in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on renewable energy University of Massachusetts Amherst Jan 2008 – Jan 2012 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/alexliotta --- Source: https://flows.cv/alexanderliottahehim JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/alexanderliottahehim/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-22
