BeCalm is an experience like no other. From distracting mini games, inspiring music, to soothing meditations, BeCalm presents the unique experience of being able to explore and understand the flurry of stress and anxiety circulating our minds. One afternoon, I came to the realization that most, if not all, of my peers consistently complained about feeling anxious. This is how BeCalm came to be: an app that could help manage anxiety and stress for teens, like myself. I began to spend time researching ways to reduce anxiety, and combined my research with the stress-relieving methods I knew had worked for me in the past, which included: inspirational music, distracting activities, and meditation. Eventually, with the help of a Guatemalan student programmer, I digitally designed several different “screens” for BeCalm, decided upon the functionality of each button, and reached out to a yoga teacher, who agreed to record meditations for my application. After several months of dedication, BeCalm was completed last year and uploaded to the Google Play Store.
