It all started in the crowded waiting area of a California Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) office where I started reading Don Norman’s seminal book, The Design of Everyday Things. While immersed in the book, I was beyond elated to discover that there existed a field/discipline that matched how my inquisitive mind was constantly questioning why things all around me (digital or physical) were designed and created. Since that englightening afternoon, this journey has taken me through companies like Amazon and Google and a higher education institution (University of Washington) where I have worked with and learned from the best practitioners and leaders who have influenced and shaped me into the design leader and educator I am today. Throughout my 18+ years of experience in the UX and interaction design space, I have been a human-centered design champion, a design and system thinking advocate and educator, and a compassionate and empathetic leader who has built and led design teams across multiple industries in large and mid-size technology companies and a consulting firm in creating and delivering first-class experiences and solutions for customers and businesses. I also have a passion for teaching and mentoring. I love sharing my knowledge and vast collection of resources with others. I am constantly looking to inspire and cultivate interest in people to explore the area of design. The reward of helping others advance in their learning and shepherding new generations of designers motivates me to continually hone my chops and expand my repertoire.
