# Alexis Lucio > Senior Accessibility Designer at GitHub Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/alexislucio alexislucio.com Great design comes from cultivating experiences and sharing them with others; I love crafting thoughtful moments that drive users to confidence and delight. I take pride in unraveling the complex, boring problems that no one wants to tackle but everyone wants solved. I spent the first five years of my career designing for finance and software development before transitioning to digital accessibility (a11y) design. I have multiple successes in being the "first and only designer" at companies with 60 and 6,000 employees and establishing programs that continue long after I am gone. From the heart, my detailed organization, thoroughness, situational adaptability, and relentless optimism are rooted in community care; I believe that the less traditionally marginalized people like me experience undervaluing and underestimation, the better our society and the technology we use will be. Outside of my job, I stretch my creative muscles through dance and performance. ## Work Experience ### Senior Product Designer, Design Systems & Accessibility @ GitHub Jan 2022 – Present • Notable projects: A11y Design Bootcamp, accessible drag and drop pattern, contributor to open source annotation toolkit. • Embed into feature teams as accessibility design subject matter expert, driving a "shift left" philosophy and ensuring a11y best practices are included in user research and feature development for key workflows within GitHub • Spearhead development and facilitation of a11y design education programs across design, user research, and product • Share first responder responsibilities with two to four teammates, including guiding weekly office hours and collaborating with a11y engineers to resolve issues ### Senior Accessibility Lead @ Splunk Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | San Francisco Bay Area • Audited design system for a11y design and shared results with cross functional partners to influence roadmaps for multiple teams • Led a team of a11y advocates to create component based a11y documentation for engineers to reference • Collaborated with cross functional partners in legal, compliance, and product management to baseline compliance and remediation standards across the product suite • Conceptualized and released (with a summer intern) an a11y design toolkit for designers to cross-check their designs and learn more about a11y • Spoke and attended major a11y conferences such as CSUN, axe-con, and AccessU ### Accessibility and Inclusive Design Lead @ Splunk Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 As Splunk's first and only designer dedicated to a11y and inclusive design, I worked with my colleague in QA Engineering to raise awareness, invest in proactive measures, and remediate current challenges around a11y (ay-eleven-why, or web accessibility).
