# Alex Koh > Software Engineer at Amazon Location: New York, New York, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/alexkoh I am a senior software engineer focused on architecting and designing scalable and robust systems. I have been leading and driving cross-team project for 6+ years to build production quality features. ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Amazon Jan 2025 – Present | New York, United States ### Senior Software Engineer @ TetraScience Jan 2021 – Jan 2024 I am on the data pipelines team that provides the framework for users to run ETL workloads on our platform I developed the technical design, planned the delivery schedule, managed meetings across different teams, and communicated progress with senior level directors while coding the majority of the project. I also architected the system to be extensible that will serve as a core component of the platform that other features will build upon. To accomplish this, I wrote the service level code in typescript while also leveraging AWS cloudformation templates to serve as infrastructure as code I built a new way to reprocess files that could scale efficiently and work with other parts of our platform. I leveraged elastic search as our source of truth which made it consistent with our core search experience. This unified the UX experience with other types of bulk processing jobs in our system and also unlocked over 100x improvement in allowing customers to perform batch reprocessing jobs. I solved major issues when trying to run and monitor multiple data pipelines concurrently. I achieved this by constructing a new scheduler that implemented a novel fairness algorithm that I designed. I also fixed a multi-tenant issue where noisy neighbors had prevented customers from receiving the throughput they expected. In addition, I changed the backend logic for APIs that had previously caused our database to crash due to expensive joins and poor data models. I developed a solution to prevent multiple data pipelines from creating infinite loops that would crash our platform. I had to understand the end to end architecture of how files moved in our system and how we could add metadata to protect our system. Overall, this has saved the platform tens of thousands of times from crashing ### Software Engineer III @ AppDynamics Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 | San Francisco Bay Area Currently building a new infrastructure monitoring product in Golang to leverage Appdynamics’ new platform. Drove the investigation on how we could utilize Prometheus based exporters to reach parity with, and eventually surpass our current solution. Implemented a mock GRPC server while abstracting the functionality, which allowed for various validations through different implementations. Restructured our CICD pipeline to optimize efficiency and bootstrap our test framework ### Software Engineer II at Appdynamics @ AppDynamics Jan 2018 – Jan 2020 Designed and implemented the core framework of our company's new kubernetes monitoring solution using Java and Golang. Developed the infrastructure using Gradle, standardized the logging system, and integrated our product into our CICD TeamCity pipeline. Led several meetings describing the internal architecture and presented our product at an all hands. Became our team's subject matter expert on our company’s build and CICD systems. Established multiple pipelines for our team using Gradle, Docker, Makefiles, and Kotlin. Drove our team's devops efforts and parallelized tests to reduce the bottleneck by 30%, saving around 25 minutes for every commit across the company that ran through the central pipeline. ### Head Introduction to Programming Course Producer @ USC Viterbi School of Engineering Jan 2015 – Jan 2017 | University of Southern California Promoted to a head role in January 2016 and was responsible for managing logistics for over 30 other course producers and TAs. Held weekly office hours to help students learn the fundamentals of C++. Oversaw labs, proctored midterms, graded assignments, and worked directly with the professor. ### Ipodia Platform Developer @ USC Viterbi School of Engineering Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 | Los Angeles Constructed a content management system (similar to Blackboard) using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Java Server Pages (JSP), and MySQL. Implemented functionality to maintain a registrar system, allow professors to ask questions, and match students based on their responses. Devised a genetic algorithm to ensure all groups are fair based on quiz scores across multiple topics. ### Technical Program Manager Intern @ Pure Storage Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | Mountain View, CA Developed a tool to examine 4000+ Jenkins builds and designed a custom parser to extract over 2.5 million data points from 352 million lines of log data. Implemented a pattern matching algorithm to reverse engineer the names of specific tests. Aggregated the results at various levels and built a comparison mechanism to visualize trends and identify potential gaps in our test coverage. Displayed the results on custom website using HTML, CSS, JS, JQuery, python, and SQL through the web2py framework. ### Software Engineer Intern @ Google Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 | Mountain View, CA Developed a command line interface for an internal testing platform using Go. Built a tool that automatically created the necessary configurations and code for test servers. Worked with auto-generated files and templates to reduce code redundancy and increase scalability. Designed and built a universal registry to track and enforce name uniqueness of 5,000+ servers. Gained exposure to Google’s internal version of the Bazel Build System and Skylark extensions. ### Engineering Practicum Intern @ Google Jan 2015 – Jan 2015 | Mountain View Implemented a GPS tracking feature for the new My Maps Android app using Java and XML. Collaborated with the creator of Google’s MyTracks app to develop a route tracing mechanism that updated a path in real time and displayed statistics. Worked with UX, product, and engineering teams to define the scope of the project and then wrote a comprehensive design document. Optimized memory usage and speed after finishing the initial implementation of the project. ### Marketing Coordinator @ HackSC Planning Committee Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 Coordinated with people from other schools and news sources at USC to promote USC’s largest hackathon. During the two-day event, volunteered for 31 hours setting up, distributing refreshments to 700+ hackers, assisting sponsors, ensuring operations were running smoothly, and cleaning up. ### Summer Intern @ buuteeq™ Inc. Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 | Seattle Worked at this digital marketing company that builds websites for hotels. Built 80 automated test programs using Selenium WebDriver, increasing total test cases by 39%. Produced metrics to help determine features for Buuteeq’s v2 content management system. ## Education ### Master of Science - MS in Computer Science University of Southern California ### Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science / Business Administration University of Southern California ### High School Diploma Lakeside High School ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/alex-koh-9573238a --- Source: https://flows.cv/alexkoh JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/alexkoh/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-05
