Trading Platform - Fractional Trading

Designed fractional trading-specific pre-production testing environment to bake all commits prior to deployment to production to identify configuration issues, measure regulatory KPIs, and prevent extreme PnL fluctuations. This involved the design and implementation of a mock market maker to confirm and fill orders in a manner realistic enough to be representative of the US equities market.

Designed and implemented a modified order book to process, rest, and send a new class of orders at Robinhood. The new order book is lower latency than existing order books due to an improvement in the underlying order storage data structure while still having equal multithreaded concurrency performance.

Increased resiliency of low-latency marketdata pipeline by modifying internal Kafka implementation, then reduced additional overhead of this change from 20% to 3% by tuning the setup configuration.

Designed and performed xxxM row, multi-week regulatory data backfill to unblock a company-wide compliance effort. The new backfill method is failure-tolerant, ~19x faster than a simple SQL query backfill, and has been used successfully by multiple teams in similar backfills.

Won company-wide Arrowhead Award for identifying and fixing an observability regression in critical business metrics that was silently impacting the entire company.

Represented the team at an org-level reliability review series. Proposed solutions to reduce risk and exceed defined SLA's for all services.

Drove efforts to improve oncall happiness including tracking oncall hours, standardizing alerting, and creating flexible oncall schedule tooling.

Amazon Web Services - Storage Gateway

Designed a custom tagging implementation for a new AWS service (Backup Gateway) to integrate with an existing legacy tagging service, providing a consistent AWS tagging experience for customers.

Ensured security compliance by implementing in-flight credential encryption and certificate checks for all API calls between internal services.

Improved service-wide metrics and logging infrastructure, allowing for easier debugging of system failures.

Hosted and recorded a Q&A learning series on internal Amazon tooling, improving the onboarding process for the team’s current and future new hires.

Amazon Prime Video - Partner Delivery Experience

Designed a component to filter unsupported image assets at ingestion time rather than downstream, closing 65% of all errored workflows without manual intervention.

Led cross-team effort between 5 teams to address VP-level goal of standardizing content release times, improving the customer experience by aligning with the industry standard.

Collaborated with product managers and downstream teams to standardize locale codes across Prime Video, reducing operational burden on operators who previously needed to manually modify databases to fix partner errors.

Migrated service hosts to Amazon Linux 2 to minimize costs and meet security requirements.

Implemented operational excellence best practices by completing pipeline Full CD work to improve software quality through automated testing.

Parallel Sysplex Performance

Developed tool to automate workload offloading and data entry into a common database. Anticipated savings of 377 hours of tester time yearly for 2020. (Python)

Performed validation testing on hardware/software changes brought forth by development teams. Ran workloads on z/OS mainframes, analyzed results, and brought data-based insights and personalized suggestions back to teams.

Developed intelligent dashboard for test floor analytics as a Jumpstart project, winning a 1st place "Best in Showcase" award. The dashboard integrated numerous in-production AI's into one central view, prioritizing as necessary so as to give a tester an overview of items that require immediate attention. Acted as Team Lead for this project, serving as a liaison between Jumpstart program coordinator, project sponsor, and teammates, and led scrums and scheduling meetings on top of development. Assisted in developing new-hire onboarding materials. Worked with a team in the process of patenting a novel Knowledge Transfer system to accelerate learning between retiring employees and new hires.
