# Ali Paracha > Software Engineer Location: New York City Metropolitan Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/aliparacha ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Meta Jan 2024 – Present | New York City Metropolitan Area ### Software Development Engineer @ Amazon Web Services (AWS) Jan 2021 – Jan 2024 | Arlington, Virginia, United States ### Software Development Engineer @ Amazon Web Services (AWS) Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 | Herndon, Virginia, United States ### Software Development Intern @ DisputeSoft Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | Maryland - Drafted a parallelized n-tier architectural design for a static code analysis tool. - Refactored the tool to implement the design mentioned above using multithreading and parallelism techniques; improved runtime by 30%. - Implemented a file management software feature that allowed users to manage files through the GUI. - Authored over 200 unit-tests to test multiple software features. - Worked in an agile development environment. ### Teaching Assistant @ University of Maryland Jan 2017 – Jan 2019 • Created, documented and proofread projects and exam questions. • Demonstrated and explained object oriented and functional programming paradigms using languages such as Java, C, OCaml, and Ruby. • Lead discussion sections and taught concepts such as data structures, parsing, good coding practices and hypothesis testing. • Responded to questions and communicated course material to students during weekly lectures and office hours. • Worked with 1300+ students in introductory and intermediate level computer science/statistics courses; over 800 hours. ### Teaching Assistant @ University of Maryland Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 Teaching Assistant for Dr. Anwar Mamat in a 300 level Programming Languages class. • Demonstrated and explained scripting and functional programming paradigms using Ruby and OCaml respectively. • Wrote questions for quizzes and exams to assist professor. • Responded to questions and communicated course material to students during weekly office hours. ### Teaching Assistant @ University of Maryland Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 Teaching Assistant for Dr. Nelson Padua-Perez in a Computer Systems class. • Explained programming concepts to students in an intermediate level Computer Science class. • Evaluated homework and tests. • Held office hours to ensure students understand course concepts. • Documentation and proofreading of coursework projects. ### Community Assistant @ University of Maryland Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 • Maintained and managed the front desk, including greeting visitors and responding to telephone and in person requests for information. • Supplied key cards and building access to employees, residents and visitors. • Served as central point of contact for all outside vendors needing access to the building. • Received, logged and distributed residents’ mail and packages. ### Teaching Assistant @ University of Maryland Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 Teaching Assistant for Dr. Evan Golub in an Object - Oriented Programming class. • Explaining Programming concepts to students in an Introductory Computer Science class. • Evaluating homework, tests and holding office hours to ensure students understand course concepts. • Documentation and Proofreading of coursework projects. ### Research Assistant @ University of Maryland Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 Worked alongside Dr. Ashok Agrawala and a team of Ph.D. students to develop an android application that pinpointed the location of an individual down to the floor and room of a building. • The application made use of Google’s Location System Services API and access points across campus to help deliver the location of the user. These access points were detected from images using MATLAB and were then plotted on ARCGIS along with the coordinates of each room in the building. Once the app was run, it pinged the access point that was closest to it which helped discern the floor of the building. Then using Google's location services the room was determined in two ways 1. locating current coordinates on ARCGIS, 2. figuring out coordinates of current room relative to the coordinates of the access point. ### Teaching Assistant @ University of Maryland Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 Teaching Assistant for Dr. Radu Lazar in a Business Statistics class. • Lead discussion sections and explained complex statistical concepts of an intermediate level course. • Evaluated homework and tests. • Responded to questions and communicated course material to students during weekly lectures and office hours. ### Machine Learning Intern @ UT Southwestern Medical Center Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | Dallas/Fort Worth Area - Worked on the reconstruction of medical images (MRI's, CT scans) through deep learning. - Designed a General Adversarial Network that made use of an Auto Encoder-Decoder CNN structure to reconstruct under-sampled MRI images. - Devised a neural network with multiple encoder blocks where each block contained three convolution layers, each of which gradually increased the number of filters used to recognize features of the image. - Defined the loss function for the GAN which incorporated the loss in both image and frequency domain, alongside the discriminator loss to recreate the best image possible. - Employed TensorFlow library to perform necessary tasks. ## Education ### Master's degree in Computer Science Georgia Institute of Technology ### Bachelor's degree in Computer Science University of Maryland ### Minor in Statistics University of Maryland ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/aliarshadparacha - Website: https://aliparacha1996.github.io/ --- Source: https://flows.cv/aliparacha JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/aliparacha/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-05
