# Allen Chen > EECS and Business Administration Major @ UC Berkeley, Software Engineer @ Google Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/allenchen ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Google Jan 2022 – Present | Sunnyvale, California, United States ### Technical Intern - Google Cloud Platforms @ Google Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | Sunnyvale, California, United States I worked on the Google Cloud Platforms team on a Hard Disk Drive Management project that delivers core infrastructure for device firmware management, with a focus on reusability, testability, and observability. I implemented a generic firmware version graph representation along with a core library that executes optimal traversals through that graph to a target firmware version. I also Implemented a management library for ATA drives using a specialization of the generic framework Finally, I created a prototype tool using all components with observability metrics visualized in a dashboard. ### Dancer - Academy of Villains San Jose @ Academy of Villains Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 I trained under the performing arts company Academy of Villains during the entire summer of 2019. I was not only physically and mentally trained as a dancer, but also as a performer and an artist. ### Software Engineer Intern - Shopping Personalization @ Google Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | United States I worked with the Shopping Personalization team during this internship. I developed a TensorFlow pipeline that creates a model for extracting product information from URL data in order to improve maintainability on product data, reliability of product information extraction, and efficiency of data storage. I also modified a data pipeline in order to be able to convert raw URL data from Annotated-Document format to TensorFlow Example format using DocJoin and Flume ### Software Engineering Intern - AWS and Query Optimization @ DataVisor Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | 967 N Shoreline Blvd, Mountain View, CA 94043 I researched and worked on a new method for data storage, optimal for a mass amount of queries,as an alternative to HBase, which only allows for infrequent lookups. I also learned AWS Practitioning fundamentals and combined AWS services Athena, S3, and along with Hive to minimize storage costs. Furthermore, I experimented with different data compression and storage formats in order to achieve minimum cost and at the same time boost query efficiency. This includes data compression, repartitioning, and index storage. ### Computer Science Research Intern - Boston University RISE Program @ Boston University Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 I worked in the Boston University Network and Control Lab under Professor Yannis Paschalidis and created a well-performing classification model using neural networks to predict future hospitalizations and discovered important features based on patients’ electronic health records. My paper, “Using Neural Networks to Predict Future Heart-Related Hospitalizations Based on Patients’ Electronic Health Records”, has been accepted by the National High School Journal of Science. ### Computer Science Summer Camp Instructor @ AlphaStar Academy Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 | Santa Clara, CA I was paid to teach middle and high school students algorithmic programming aimed to prepare them for the USA Computing Olympiad. A summer course in computer science at AlphaStar Academy is composed of 2 hours per week for 12 weeks per summer term, in total 48 class hours. In addition, 2 hours weekly is required for homework on the average (48 hours in total per term). ## Education ### Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science University of California, Berkeley ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/allenhchen --- Source: https://flows.cv/allenchen JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/allenchen/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-29
