# Amber Choo > Product Design Prototyper Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/amberchoo I am a multidisciplinary AR/VR prototyper. Previously I worked as a technical artist, a product owner/manager, and as a UX prototyper for augmented humanity applications. In Canada I worked in medical VR as a freelance designer + developer, where I created a virtual reality that successfully reduced chronic pain intensity in clinical settings. I have led prototyping efforts at various Meta Reality Labs teams in California, including in both AR OS and VR OS, in display management, core applications, and in co-presence initiatives. My core skill focus is full service prototyping (working from initial idea/conception to a fully usable AR/VR prototype) using C# and the Unity engine. I specialize in leading groups of prototypers in design explorations for non-games (products & tools) in augmented and virtual reality. I have worked with the full spectrum of XR hardware including the HTC Vive, Hololens, Quest HMDs and proprietary experimental hardware. ## Work Experience ### Product Design Prototyper @ Meta Jan 2021 – Present | San Francisco Bay Area PD Prototypers at Reality Labs are part software engineer, part product designer. We create interactive prototypes to test design theories for XR products, features and systems. This work draws out insights and pitfalls about proposed designs well before production. We work cross functionally with engineers, designers, researchers, and product managers to ensure our product designs are feasible, timely, and user focused. My responsibilities include leading prototyping teams on larger cross functional projects, mentoring new and mid-level prototypers, and ensuring our prototypers excel at the work they love and do best! ### Product Design Prototyper @ Oculus VR Jan 2019 – Jan 2021 | San Francisco Bay Area Product Design Prototypers at Facebook Reality Labs are software prototypers with strong design experience who create interactive prototypes for upcoming VR software + systems. This work is hypothesis driven, and draws out insights or pitfalls about proposed designs before production. We work cross functionally with engineers, researchers, product managers and more to ensure the designs we've agreed upon are feasible, timely, and user focused. ### Product Design Specialist @ Oculus VR Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | Menlo Park, California Product Design Specialists in Oculus Design are software prototypers with strong design experience who create interactive prototypes for upcoming VR software + systems. This work is hypothesis driven, and draws out insights or pitfalls about proposed designs before production. ### Senior Unity Prototyper @ Meta Co. Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 | San Francisco Bay Area AR prototypers define how we interact with the future of AR software products by creating fast and iterative prototypes of potential user experiences. At Meta, an AR headset company (not affiliated with Facebook and since renamed Campfire), I helped create applications and operating system prototypes on Meta's design team. I completed fully interactive prototypes alone and in teams, working ahead of production schedules so the new feature is well designed, easy to use, and ready to be produced well before deadline. ### Product Manager / Product Owner @ Scenarion Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | Vancouver, Canada Area - Product Owner of Schema (www.getschema.ca) - Lead of Archiact's Product Division (Scenarion) - Creating leading applications for Google Daydream, HTC Vive, Hololens, Meta, Oculus + Touch - Interfacing directly with product stakeholders to ensure we create a useful and marketable product - Collecting qualitative data directly from prospective users, designing with prospective users, understanding use cases and applying said knowledge into sprint planning - Hiring and 'people' management of engineers, designers and web services personnel ### VR Researcher and Technical Artist @ Archiact Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 | Vancouver, Canada Area - Facilitating research collaborations between Archiact and Canadian universities - Solving rendering issues and Unity engine specific issues (ex: shader problems, import problems) - Writing grants, proposals, project documentation including SR&ED and IRAP - Developing for GearVR, HTC Vive, Hololens, Oculus CV1 & emerging platforms - Creating functional product prototypes for all major platforms (inc. programming, textures, models, animations, interactivity, polish & UX) to ensure prototypes are made punctually and are presentable to investors - Creation of AR/VR software prototypes (C#, Unity, Art, UX) to solve expected (or unexpected) user experience issues for serious (non-games) AR/VR software applications. ### VR Researcher and Designer @ Archiact Jan 2015 – Jan 2016 | Vancouver BC I have two different jobs at Archiact: VR Researcher and Technical Artist. TA: Ensuring artist assets and general artistic vision translate into VR / gamespace from a technical/integration perspective. This includes understandings in 3D modelling, texture design, shaders / materials, Unity Engine C# programming, and Unreal Engine blueprints. Research: Developing new research partnerships with universities and relevant organizations. Dissemination of current virtual reality research and findings to Archiact team. Maintaining research partnerships, writing grant applications, proposals, reports, papers. ### Graduate Teaching Assistant: Game Design & Immersive VR Environments @ Simon Fraser University Jan 2012 – Jan 2015 | Simon Fraser University Surrey Taught game design and virtual reality development at Simon Fraser University every semester during my graduate studies. I designed the assignment content and midterms used in Immersive Environments (virtual reality development and theory course), spoke in lectures and ran all workshops and labs. ## Education ### Masters of Arts in Virtual Reality Game Design for the Reduction of Chronic Pain Intensity in Clinical Settings Simon Fraser University Jan 2012 – Jan 2015 ### Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts; Focus: Interactive Art The University of British Columbia Jan 2008 – Jan 2012 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/amberchoo --- Source: https://flows.cv/amberchoo JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/amberchoo/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-25
