# Ameya Lokare > Experienced Software Engineer Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/ameyalokare Software developer with expertise in building scalable, resilient and secure distributed systems in the cloud. Deep experience with HTTP and SIP. Comfortable working in diverse areas of software development from writing automation tools to web application development. Interested in distributed systems, web application backends, cloud deployment automation, cloud security. ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Signal Messenger Jan 2024 – Present ### Principal Software Engineer @ Graphite Health Jan 2022 – Jan 2024 ### Principal Software Engineer @ Twilio Jan 2018 – Jan 2021 | Mountain View, California, United States Designed and built back-end services for the Twilio SuperSIM product. Specifically, orchestration across multiple sub-systems that required distributed systems expertise. The role also involved collaboration with different teams across continents. Written in Java and Scala. Introduced AWS CDK to quickly provision cloud resources. Used AWS step functions to orchestrate workflows across internal and external systems. ### Senior Technical Lead @ Twilio Jan 2015 – Jan 2018 Led the Twilio Programmable Conference team. Collaborated with Product teams and other engineering teams to build and maintain the Conference product as we scaled ~10x in volume. Later, moved to lead the Twilio TaskRouter team (now part of Flex). Major focus was on refactoring the service for scale, performance and observability. ### Senior Software Engineer @ Twilio Jan 2012 – Jan 2015 | San Francisco Bay Area Owner of "media stack" services for the Twilio Voice product. Rewrote the webhook system from a legacy Twisted (Python) application to Java (Netty) for better scalability, performance and integration with rest of the stack. Required thorough understanding of asynchronous network programming, security (TLS, mitigating SSRF) and defensive programming techniques (throttling, rate limiting etc). Designed and built a SIP registration system as part of the Twilio Global Low Latency project. Involved deploying services across multiple AWS regions and understanding AWS VPC, networking and firewalls. The backing store was Redis (with a sharding strategy) and the service was written in Java/Dropwizard. Helped refactor a monolithic Java service that handled all Voice flows into multiple services. Required deep understanding of SIP/RTP. Role involved debugging call flows and interactions between services that spanned almost all Twilio products at the time. ### Member of Technical Staff @ VMware Jan 2010 – Jan 2012 | Palo Alto, CA Primary developer of the build infrastructure harness (written in python) Designed and implemented a new technique for sharing build artifacts between VMware products Implemented Tarjan’s algorithm to detect directed cycles in build dependency graphs Worked on a django app that tracks build deliverables and exposes a REST api for programmatic access to build data Wrote an event-driven system that publishes build events to Redis Wrote programs for automating build services and infrastructure management using puppet ### Member of Technical Staff Intern @ VMware Jan 2009 – Jan 2009 Evaluated different approaches to virtualize build infrastructure. Wrote python scripts to automate build testing and collect performance statistics. Wrote a Django app presenting results interactively. ### Research Computing Student Assistant @ University of California, Irvine Jan 2009 – Jan 2009 Workflow automation of scientific workloads Cluster administration (Sun Grid Engine) ### Software Engineer - AIX UPT @ IBM Jan 2007 – Jan 2008 Tested the AIX Base Operating System (BOS) on a variety of hardware including Power5, Power6 and Blade servers. Was system administrator for 10 AIX logical partitions. ### Intern @ SoftJin Technologies Jan 2007 – Jan 2007 Developed Binary Decision Diagram Package", a C++ library which provides classes to create, manipulate and perform operations on Reduced Ordered Binary Decision Diagrams (ROBDDs) ## Education ### MS in Computer Science UC Irvine ### BE in Computer Science & Engineering RV College Of Engineering ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/ameyalokare - Portfolio: https://www.ameyalokare.com --- Source: https://flows.cv/ameyalokare JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/ameyalokare/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-10
