• Responsible for mechanical design of a next-generation DNA sequencing platform from product requirements to design, prototyping, DFM and documentation: DNA sequencer instrument, sample prep instrument, biochip package and consumables.
• Chief designer of the instruments ( sequencer , sample prep): industrial design, system and mechanical architecture, subsystems ( pcba, mechanisms, precision fluidics, pneumatics and thermal ) and component design.
• Developed the first scripting language, operation procedure and test plan of the sequencer .
• Led microfluidic, thermal and detail design of the biochip sensor package including tolerance stackup analysis and thermo hydrodynamic simulation (patent pending).
• Managed sequencer verification within a cross-functional team of SW, EE, ME and bio engineers.
• Led the instrument team in rapid prototyping, manufacturing and test of 40 sequencers from initial concept to functional devices in 12 months.
• Established and managed relationships with over 100 suppliers, OEMs and CMs in technology development and manufacturing.
• Led outsourced design of the sequencer consumable cartridge from requirements document, conceptual and detail design to prototyping and test.
• Led activities to outsource the sequencer production to an Asian CM (DFM, ECO, design revisions and engineering documentations)
