# Andrea Dahl > Software Engineer @ Meta Location: Palo Alto, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/andreadahl I am currently a software engineer at Meta. Last year, I graduated with a Masters and Bachelors degree in computer science at Stanford. Through internships, I've gained experience working at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative doing full-stack engineering and helped build a company and app from scratch at Gluroo. ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Meta Jan 2022 – Present | Menlo Park, California, United States ### Software Engineering Intern @ Strava Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 ### Founding Engineering Intern @ Gluroo Imaginations Inc. Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 - Built a feature-complete cross-platform T1 Diabetes management app from scratch, in a team of 3 - Created many full stack app features such as a live, interactive chart of the user’s blood glucose level - Used Postgres database, GraphQL back end, and React Native front end for development ### Software Engineering Intern @ Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | Redwood City, California, United States - Ported existing JavaScript repo to TypeScript - Enhanced a React UI tool with frontend, backend, and SQL database changes - Added new fullstack features which greatly reduce the error rate in the product’s data - Designed a rebasing Python algorithm to reinstate changes to the knowledge graph regularly ### CS 106S Instructor @ Stanford University Jan 2018 – Jan 2020 Leading the teaching team for CS 106S, a computer science course in JavaScript focused on providing students with real-world, hands-on experience applying their technical skills to make social impact. ### Machine Learning Engineering Intern @ Curai Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | Palo Alto, CA - Trained custom word embeddings on multi-word medical tokens, improved F1 score of production ML model - Aligned patient and doctor language embeddings for doctor/laymen text translation task ### Data Science Intern @ Propeller Health Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | San Francisco Designed and developed machine learning recurrent neural network model to predict battery lifespan of company products using Python and AWS SageMaker ### Software Engineering Intern @ Propeller Health Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 - Refactored and rolled out a production cron job that has generated millions of asthma forecasts at half the operating cost - Programmed and tested backend production code that calls API services and queues messages to AWS SQS using Node.js ### TEDx Invited Speaker (Wyandotte, KS) @ TED Conferences Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 | Wyandotte, KS ### Simons Fellow @ Simons Summer Research Program Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 | Stony Brook University Hold IACUC Permit for animal handling as an authorized researcher. Recorded penguin vocals at Central Park Zoo and Kansas City Zoo. Research continues with future publication in progress. Research title: Formation and Change of Vocal Dialects in Captive Gentoo Penguin Pygoscelis papua Colonies - I expanded my prior Antarctic penguin vocalization research to captive populations for more controlled study. This research examined whether dialects can be observed in captive penguin populations and whether they change over time. I wrote machine learning code to analyze the variation in gentoo vocalization between and within three zoo populations over time. My research found clear evidence that there are distinct dialects between captive populations as well as vocal plasticity within populations over just a few years. ### Independent Student Researcher @ Stony Brook University Jan 2014 – Jan 2016 As climate change forces Antarctic penguin colonies to shift geographically, my research was concerned with its impact on gentoo penguin’s vocalization which is essential to the colonies’ survival. After obtaining vocal recordings from nine Antarctic colonies from Antarctic scientists, I wrote code in R to analyze the effect of intercolonial distance on gentoo’s call characteristics and found distinct vocal dialects among regions on the Antarctic Peninsula. ### Student Educator @ Polar Educators International Jan 2014 – Jan 2016 I attend functions and speak at zoo events, classrooms, and STEM clubs to share topics about Polar science. Keynote Speaker at Nov 12, 2015 Penguin CALLS Science Conference at Kansas City Zoo. ### Independent Student Researcher @ University of Missouri-Kansas City Jan 2013 – Jan 2014 Project title: The Effect of Circadian Genes dbt and bdbt on the Lifespan of Drosophila melanogaster I used gel electrophoresis and immunoblot analysis of apoptotic markers to research the effect of two different circadian genes on the lifespan of fruit flies. My results showed a circadian modulation of apoptosis and suggests a link between altered circadian function and shortened lifespan. ## Education ### Stanford University ### Olathe North High School ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/andreadahl --- Source: https://flows.cv/andreadahl JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/andreadahl/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-01
