The studies investigated how to improve communication skills in a team-based environment using interactive mixed reality humans. * Developed new team training system which allows for the mixed reality humans to intelligently respond to user voice input. The system uses Google Cloud Speech Recognition and the Microsoft Language Understanding Intelligence Service (LUIS) * Collaborated with UF Health faculty to design team training scenarios. * Led weekly conference calls with an interdisciplinary team of computer scientists and healthcare professionals * Assisted with porting mixed reality human technology from the Ogre3D rendering engine to Unity * Maintained/Improved mixed reality human codebase * Designed/Developed Wizard of Oz Interface which aided proctor in the deployment and operation of a mixed reality team training scenario. * Assisted with transferring the mixed reality human technology to UF Health Science Library IT * Led initial investigation into the development of a personalized virtual reality training system Conducted research on virtual humans/virtual patients in the context of medical training. * Led initial investigation into rendering 3D virtual humans on the web using WebGL * Developed a redesigned text-based chat interface for interacting with virtual humans on the web. This interface has been used by hundreds of medical students across the United States. * Collaborated with faculty at the Medical College of Georgia to design a user study for 70 first-year medical students which investigated how virtual patients can influence empathy ### Undergraduate Research Assistant on grant sponsored by Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces @ The University of Southern Mississippi Jan 2010 – Jan 2011 | Hattiesburg, Mississippi * Improved upon previous PhD student's work on mobile agents. Ported code from C++ to Java. * Collaborated with Radiance Technologies on improving the user interface of a configuration application to analyze GIS data. ### Undergraduate Research Assistant on Intelligent Traffic Simulation @ The University of Southern Mississippi Jan 2009 – Jan 2011 | Hattiesburg, Mississippi Conducted research on algorithms and visualizations of traffic routing algorithms. * Helped developed a path finding algorithm for traffic routing. * Created a visualization of the simulation which allowed for changing the map and number of cars present. * Integrated path-finding algorithm with Google Maps to create custom directions based on output of the algorithm. ### Developer on a Collaborative Virtual Environment for Building Information Modeling @ The University of Southern Mississippi Jan 2010 – Jan 2010 | Hattiesburg, Mississippi Project funded by the US Army Engineering Research and Development Center (ERDC). * Developed algorithm to generate 3D terrain based on a height map. This 3D terrain was rendered on the web using O3D. * Developed interface to virtually excavate the 3D terrain. * Created shaders to dynamically blend textures on the 3D terrain based on real world soil data. ### Developer for Simplified Web Interface Manager @ The University of Southern Mississippi Jan 2010 – Jan 2010 | Hattiesburg, Mississippi Project funded by the US Army Engineering Research and Development Center (ERDC). * Developed an algorithm to convert an Autodesk Revit Access Database to a Construction Operations Building Information Exchange (COBie) excel spreadsheet. * Developed a "Super User" Interface to convert the database to the COBie spreadsheet and create a webpage to interact with the COBie data. ## Education ### Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Science University of Florida ### Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Science The University of Southern Mississippi ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/andrew-cordar - Portfolio: https://acordar.github.io/ --- Source: https://flows.cv/andrewcordar JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/andrewcordar/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-10
