# Andrew Stucki > Staff Software Engineer at Redpanda Data Location: Fairfax County, Virginia, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/andrewstucki Professional software developer with a background in both law and analog integrated circuits (oh my!). I like Go, Ruby, C, React, Web APIs, distributed systems, service design, cross-compilation, fumbling through playing music, and hanging out with my 2 kids. ## Work Experience ### Staff Software Engineer @ Redpanda Data Jan 2024 – Present | Fairfax, VA Building out our Kubernetes orchestration layer used both by the wider Redpanda community and consumed internally as a major building block of our cloud platform. ### Senior Engineer II @ HashiCorp Jan 2021 – Jan 2024 | Fairfax, VA Initial and primary developer of the Consul API Gateway. Implemented one of the first gateway controllers for the upstream Kubernetes Gateway SIG spec. As a team lead, mentored and grew the team to 7 engineers and facilitated a transition of our team to managing the entire line of gateways within the larger Consul Service Mesh ecosystem. Helped re-envision and rearchitect Consul's internal apis and data storage layer around eventually consistent control loops. In May 2024, moved teams to work on Terraform Cloud as a team lead within the Platform Services team. Responsible for building out and bringing Terraform remote agents to general availability. ### Senior Software Engineer @ Elastic Jan 2019 – Jan 2021 | Arlington, VA I worked on the beats team writing security integrations. I spent my days developing integrations for third party security products to integrate with the Elastic Stack and often found myself spelunking through the bowels of Linux kernel code. Prior to that, I was a backend developer for the Elastic Endgame control-plane. Among other things at Elastic, I've worked on packet sniffers and protocol dissectors, Linux kernel audit framework integrations, proof-of-concept compilers for EQL and eBPF-based LSMs, Kibana plugins for process-based security event visualizations, Elasticsearch ingest plugins, high-performance streaming replication between the Endgame product and Elasticsearch, Dockerizing Endgame's internal cloud environment, and helping develop the Elastic Common Schema. (Endgame was acquired by Elastic in October 2019.) ### Senior Rails Developer @ Drip Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | Minneapolis, Minnesota Core developer for an automated email service provider platform. On the customer feature side, among other things, implemented GDPR compliance features baked into the platform, wrote plenty of Node, Elm, Go, and Ruby while helping create a mobile-friendly visual email builder and its supporting rendering pipelines, and built out the underlying engine for an e-commerce to email revenue attribution feature and its corresponding revenue dashboards. Internally, built out a production-ready Docker-based microservice ecosystem that leverages ECS and terraform, created an ETL stream-processing pipeline and supporting libraries to offload data into Amazon Redshift for better analytics performance, and contributed new features to open source projects like Traefik to better support infrastructure. On the people side of things, educated engineers and customers on the ins-and-outs of email authentication and security, helped change and normalize engineering hiring and screening process, and helped more than double the size of the team. ### Software Engineer @ Seed.co Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 | Minneapolis, Minnesota API and platform developer for a mobile-banking platform focused on making the lives small business owners easier. Spear-headed a number of development efforts including an infrastructure overhaul, implementing a scalable event-store, and designing and abstracting internal libraries for both security and cloud-provider independence. Technologies used: General AWS stack including ECS, ELBs, S3, and VPNs, Terraform, Docker, Go, React, Microservices, Postgres, CircleCI, Consul, Nomad, Vault ### Software Engineer @ Granicus Jan 2014 – Jan 2017 | St. Paul, Minnesota Core developer for a small development team responsible for producing and supporting SaaS applications used by municipal, state, and federal governments to effectively communicate with the general populace. I've worked on pretty much our entire application stack from the networking protocol layer all the way to front-end rich UI design. After helping architect and implement our two most recent greenfield applications, I'm currently the technical lead for a cross-functional infrastructure team charged with designing a self-service, multi-datacenter internal PAAS system built on top of our hybrid cloud systems. Technologies I've worked with heavily the past few years: Ruby, Rails, Java, Kafka, React, Ember.js, Oracle, Redis, MuleESB, VMWare, AWS, Terraform, Packer, CentOS, SMTP (GovDelivery became Granicus after an acquisition and merger in October 2016) ### Law Clerk @ Federal Public Defender Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 ### Law Clerk @ Hennepin County Public Defender Jan 2013 – Jan 2014 ### Software Engineer @ Aspera, Inc.
