# Andrew Velis > SchooLinks | Engineering Manager | Pattern Seeker | Problem Solver | Leading teams to deliver reliable and maintainable solutions Location: Concord, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/andrewvelis I am an Engineering Manager with 10+ years experience in the tech industry within Medallia, Promoter.io, & FIS Mobile. My strengths in Agile Methodologies and team leadership equipped me to establish a structured release cadence, leading to improved team confidence and productivity. Core areas of expertise include CI/CD, Data Driven Testing Frameworks, & Cross-Functional Collaboration. I have lead teams with both Front-End, Back-End, & Mobile specializations. Taking product initiatives from concept to production deployment in a little as 2-3 months. Reassigned and supervised a delayed customer commitment project, leading a team of 8 to its successful completion within three months, restoring customer confidence, and resulting in the renewal and extension of their contract securing $1.2M ARR for 3 more years. Revitalized a low-performing cross-functional team of 15 by establishing a monthly release cadence within two months, resulting in 1.5X improved delivery performance over the following year and a significant boost in employee engagement with zero employee attrition post-release cadence. Led a cloud modernization and migration of our application over a 1 year span to improve scalability and reliability, resulting in an increase in customer NPS from 30 to 65 within three months post-migration. I get excited about opportunities that value disciplined agile development & data-driven product roadmaps. I am seeking an opportunity to lead development team(s) to build high-quality products quickly & safely. When I am not working, I like watching sports, camping, small hikes, just beach, & watching streams on Twitch. Want to connect? I established a monthly release cadence, set up regular sprint cycles, defined clear release criteria, and streamlined the deployment process. Within two months, the team adopted this cadence, improving delivery performance and boosting morale. Consistent releases restored confidence and motivation, and leadership recognized this improvement as key for future success. Our cloud-hosted product struggled with scalability and reliability, highlighted by a major outage. I led the initiative to virtualize and containerize the application for migration to a new data center and cloud provider. We created virtual machine images, Docker containers, and implemented Kubernetes. Post-migration, scalability and performance improved significantly. Within three months, our customer NPS increased from 30 to 65. Leadership and customers acknowledged the value of the new infrastructure. A customer commitment feature was behind schedule after six months with a contract team. I moved the project to a new team under my supervision. We implemented agile methodologies, monitored progress through daily stand-ups, and set clear milestones. The new team completed the feature in three months, meeting our commitment and restoring customer confidence, leading to contract renewal and extension. Leadership and the customer acknowledged the successful turnaround as a significant achievement. ### Engineering Manager @ Medallia Jan 2019 – Jan 2021 | Austin, Texas, United States Our leadership team identified the need for a connecting application that could serve as an Identity Provider (IDP) and Relay Partner, driven by the leading class quality of our API. To address this, I led an initiative to enhance our API as an SSO auth IDP, enabling seamless Single Sign-On (SSO) authentication for our peripheral products. We designed and implemented a solution that integrated these products into a cohesive suite, ensuring smooth and secure authentication. The integration was completed within a 3-6 month timeframe, allowing the sales team to pitch the enhanced product suite to customers in the next sales quarter. This swift implementation not only streamlined our product offerings but also led to several high-value deals, receiving positive feedback from customers and significantly boosting our sales performance. ### Engineering Manager @ Promoter.io Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | San Antonio, Texas Area Faced with the absence of a Product Manager for 12 months, I recognized the increasing friction and inefficiencies this was causing for our support and sales teams. As an Engineering Manager, I took the initiative to bridge this gap by engaging directly with these teams. Through a series of meetings and feedback sessions, I gained a deep understanding of their challenges and priorities. Using this information, I developed a comprehensive engineering roadmap that strategically outlined key engineering work and feature deployments for the coming months. This roadmap not only addressed the most critical needs of the support and sales teams but also provided clear strategic direction for our engineering efforts. The proactive development of this roadmap significantly reduced operational friction, freeing up 35% of the support team's time and increasing the sales team's ability to close deals by 10%. The initiative was well-received by leadership and other departments, underscoring the importance of internal stakeholder collaboration in the absence of a PM. ### Senior Software Engineer @ Promoter.io Jan 2014 – Jan 2018 As a foundational engineer at a startup, I was tasked with transforming an innovative product idea, initially presented in a slide deck, into a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) demo within six months to secure our first round of funding. I took charge of the development process, collaborating closely with the founders to translate their vision into actionable tasks. By setting up agile methodologies and supporting a dedicated engineering team, we focused on core functionalities that would make the strongest impact on potential investors. Our efforts resulted in a successful MVP demo that showcased the product's potential, leading to our first round of funding, securing $1 million. This achievement underscored my strengths in leadership, project management, and rapid development, laying a strong foundation for the startup's future growth and success. As our business grew, there was a need to expand the engineering team with junior talent, and coding bootcamp graduates were identified as a promising pool. I spearheaded the initiative to hire, onboard, coach, and mentor these graduates to ensure they met our high-quality standards. I developed a recruitment process that included technical assessments and interviews, designed a comprehensive onboarding program, and established a mentorship program pairing junior engineers with experienced mentors. Emphasizing high-quality coding standards, we implemented code reviews and continuous integration practices. This initiative successfully integrated several coding bootcamp graduates into the team, making them productive contributors to the product. Leadership recognized this program as a key factor in sustaining the quality and growth of our engineering organization. ### Senior Software Engineer @ FIS - Fidelity Information Services Jan 2013 – Jan 2014 I co-led our company's first-ever hackathon, aimed at fostering creativity and team collaboration. We meticulously planned the event, encouraging cross-functional teams to participate and providing necessary resources and support. Throughout the hackathon, we facilitated daily check-ins and motivational sessions, maintaining high energy and engagement. The event culminated in a presentation day where teams showcased their innovative demos to C-level executives. The executives were highly impressed, with several projects being integrated into the future product roadmap. This successful hackathon demonstrated my leadership and organizational skills and set a positive precedent for future events, embedding hackathons into our company culture. ### Software Engineer @ mFoundry Jan 2009 – Jan 2013 I was shoulder-tapped to lead the development of Bank of America's first native iOS mobile banking application, a critical project aimed at enhancing the mobile banking experience. I participated in client onsite meetings to gather detailed requirements and collaborated closely with BofA’s stakeholders. Collaborating with a dedicated designer & UX lead, we focused on creating a user-friendly interface, robust security features, and smooth performance. The project was completed successfully, resulting in a significant boost in customer satisfaction and widespread adoption, with 2 million users in the first year of rollout. The successful launch of the app highlighted my strengths in leadership, client collaboration, and mobile development, marking BofA’s first true investment in a native iOS experience. ## Education ### Bachelors of Science in Computer Science University of San Francisco ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/avelis - Portfolio: http://www.velis.co --- Source: https://flows.cv/andrewvelis JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/andrewvelis/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-11
