# Anneliese L. > Software Engineer @ Netflix Location: San Francisco, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/anneliese Software engineer focused on platform infrastructure and the internal systems that other engineers ship on top of. I've spent my career at the intersection of backend orchestration and developer-facing tooling — building debug toolkits, designing schema patterns, managing data platform clusters, and running zero-downtime migrations. At Netflix, I work on the Gusto platform, the orchestration layer behind every discovery surface. Before that, I built ads serving infrastructure at Pinterest and data platform tooling at Twitter. The common thread is making complex backend systems usable — whether that means a cleaner GraphQL schema, a better internal debug UI, or an operational playbook that keeps deploys from breaking. Cornell CS, two publications (COLING 2020, IEEE GLOBECOM 2022), and a minor in Fine Art that occasionally explains my opinions about API design. ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Netflix Jan 2024 – Present | Los Gatos, CA Gusto Platform · Tier 0 backend platform powering Netflix's server-driven UI across all discovery surfaces at 600K peak QPS, orchestrating 25+ backend microservices. • Building LiveOnChannelEvent resolution logic and extending the real-time event pipeline across five evidence types with independent rollout controls, powering Netflix's live sports and linear broadcast experiences. • Designed and shipped a generic N×M paginated nested-sections GraphQL schema pattern as a platform-wide abstraction for Netflix's flat schema limitation, now load-bearing for categorical content UX while the long-term schema overhaul is in progress. • Led a zero-downtime identity system cutover using shadow traffic comparison to verify 100% parity before removing the legacy path. • Established a two-step schema quarantine process for federated GraphQL deploys, eliminating transient production errors and documented as an operational playbook. • Diagnosed and fixed a cross-entity correctness bug silently breaking the "Remind Me" feature for Games, then re-architected the integration using a type-agnostic model. Unblocked the Games "Coming Soon" launch. ### Software Engineer @ Pinterest Jan 2022 – Jan 2024 | San Francisco Bay Area Ads Serving Platform • Led full-stack development of AdsDebug2, an internal debug toolkit with 100+ weekly active users, delivering end-to-end from backend data integration to frontend UX — earned multiple team recognitions. • Owned feature expansion and prediction generation components of AdMixer, Pinterest's next-generation ML-backed ads serving system, through development and validation phases. • Validated Ads Auction separation via regression testing, identifying critical design drawbacks and proposing alternatives adopted by the team. ### Software Engineer I @ Twitter Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | San Francisco Bay Area Twitter Platform, Interactive Query Team • Built and integrated Druid Ingestion UI into Twitter's EagleEye observability platform, driving new dataset adoption across the Druid community. • Managed infrastructure across 12 production Druid clusters; optimized CPU and memory configurations to reduce costs by over 50%. • Automated Druid and Looker backup pipelines, cutting human effort and cloud storage costs by 90%. ### Software Engineer Intern @ Twitter Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | San Francisco Bay Area Twitter Platform, Interactive Query Team • Developed a database-interacting Sankey Diagram Looker Extension and presented to the 125-person Platform org. ### Research Assistant @ Cornell University Jan 2019 – Jan 2020 | Ithaca, NY Professor Claire Cardie’s research team • SUMSUM@FNS-2020 (COLING 2020) — Ranked 1st and 2nd on official Rouge-2 and SU4 metrics for financial narrative summarization. ### Technical Support @ Ruder Finn Asia Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | Shanghai City, China · Automated event invitations with Python. · Configured encrypted proxy servers to enhance security and readiness of the office network. ## Education ### Bachelor of Science - BS in Computer Science, Fine Art Minor Cornell University Jan 2017 – Jan 2021 ### IB Diploma Programme Shanghai World Foreign Language Academy Jan 2014 – Jan 2017 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/anneliese-lu --- Source: https://flows.cv/anneliese JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/anneliese/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-22
