# Ashley Brockington > Programmer in Residence- Director-Astrologer Location: Brooklyn, New York, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/ashleybrockington I lived for many years outside of the box, under the radar and voluntarily below the poverty line. I considered myself a practicing revolutionary that rejected the trappings of modern-day capitalism. I traveled around with a merry band of activists and we fought to protect Indigenous Peoples Rights and to educate the public to the dangers of nuclear energy. I adore this chapter of my life because it taught me resourcefulness and what it means to live and move in community. At the turn of the century, I moved to New York City to join a queer political street theater company. I discovered the intersection of politics and performance and I loved it. From there I found the scrappy theaters of the Lower East Side, specifically WOW cafe theatre, the only theater run by a collective of women and transgendered artists. I learned how to self-produce and run a small theater by doing it. I produced two successful monthly cabarets and created a five-year performance project dedicated to understanding and undoing the effects of low self-esteem in black women and girls. I've since made my way to the artistic team at Dixon Place where I am responsible for the Works-In-Progress series and the HOT! Festival. We present new work on two stages from Monday through Saturday (two shows on weekends). I love to be in service to the New York City artistic community. I work independently and have to hire and train teams of interns every semester. I still consider myself a performer/writer/playwright. I've been writing short plays for the New York Neo-Futurists for three years. I have been dabbling in stand-up this year. I love using humor to attack tough issues. ## Work Experience ### Programmer-in-Residence @ Dixon Place Jan 2024 – Present | Brooklyn, New York, United States I am responsible for seeking out and creating new performance programs for the two stages at Dixon Place.
