# Austin Tasato > i build and fix stuff @ Two Dots (YC S22) Location: San Francisco, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/austintasato My specialty is E2E full-stack on-call and triage. Excited about distributed systems + software engineering productivity! Want to focus on knowledge/learning tools and productivity while being a strong generalist, especially in cloud/distributed systems. Other prior focus areas include building programming language interpreters, basic genomics analysis + web dev + network/graph analysis in R, VR in Unity, and hobbyist gamedev in Rust + Lua. Eventually, I want to tackle audio/voice synthesis, natural language processing, graph/network-related search methods, and game design theory. My hobbies include writing, composing music, and creating my own tabletop-RPG-like system. ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Two Dots Jan 2025 – Present | San Francisco, California, United States Working at the bestest startup! ### Software Engineer @ Tarro Jan 2023 – Jan 2025 | San Francisco Bay Area Worked on custom database service + application backends + content-editing tooling in Rust, and cross-platform integration with WebAssembly and Android. Was a primary driver/advocate for our Rust-related build, deploy, CI, and CD. Spent 6 weeks in our Philippines BPO call-center working graveyard shifts, driving product and tooling improvements as well as triaging adoption issues of our new internal product and tooling. ### Software Engineer @ Second Spectrum Jan 2021 – Jan 2023 | Los Angeles, California, United States Helped refactor and support Neptune, a custom ingestion/search/storage system for live athletic game data streams and complex aggregated batch/live data analysis, utilizing AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Apache Pulsar, and SQL with Rust. Gained ownership of telemetry for service, implementing OpenTelemetry distributed tracing support and various metrics/logs/tracing dashboards on Grafana (with data from Prometheus/Loki/Tempo). ### Software Engineer @ Microsoft Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 | Redmond, Washington, United States Developed for and supported next-gen distributed back-end team for Azure SQL Database Hyperscale and SharePoint, using C++ and C# to scale perf/capacity past 4 TB. Helped develop and triage issues primarily for the database transaction log management service as defined by "Socrates: The New SQL Server in the Cloud" (2019). ### Software Development Engineer @ Amazon Web Services Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | Seattle, Washington Developed/Supported critical distributed backend services for internal company-wide issue management and Scrum sprint planning software using Java, Python, and Ruby (with 50k - 100k unique users per day). Owned part of then-“largest” company-wide software migration process, while advocating to combat tech debt and ops. Helped develop and maintain multi-regional distributed HTTP REST services, “scripts,” daemons, and automation projects. Successfully mentored an intern to a returning full-time offer. ### Software Development Engineer Intern @ Amazon Web Services Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | Greater Seattle Area Designed and created an independent issue resolution automation framework for the AWS Fraud Prevention team, reducing resolution time for targeted classes of issues by 50% using Java + AWS Lambda. Picked up and applied Agile methodologies (Kanban, Scrum). ### Summer Intern - Systems Delivery @ Booz Allen Hamilton Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 | Honolulu, Hawaii Delivered a virtual reality (VR) application with a team of 6 for the Pacific Aviation Museum over a period of 10 weeks using Unity. Transformed USGS landscape data into a to-scale 3D model of Pearl Harbor’s Ford Island using Blender. Owned creation of sound assets using FL Studio + Adobe After Effects. Progressed to the final round of 18 from ~60 presenters for national company-internal solo pitch competition. ### Bioinformatics Intern - Workflow Application Development @ The Research Corporation of the University of Hawai'i Jan 2015 – Jan 2016 | Honolulu, Hawaii Prototyped and helped publish Granatum, a bioinformatics web application with R and JavaScript for scRNA-seq analysis with guidance from Dr. Lana Garmire, etc. (doi:10.1186/s13073-017-0492-3). Obtained experience with single-cell RNA-sequencing research papers and methodology, general analytical techniques (e.g. PCA, NMF-based clustering, distribution modeling, etc.) and graphing (ggplot2). ## Education ### Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Computer Engineering University of Hawaii at Manoa ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/aytasato --- Source: https://flows.cv/austintasato JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/austintasato/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-05
