# Benjamin Lee > CS @ UC Berkeley | Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Scholar | Passionate about AI/HCI Location: Berkeley, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/benjaminlee ## Work Experience ### Undergraduate Research Assistant @ University of California, Berkeley Jan 2026 – Present Deciphering cool German texts using LLMs with Prof. Thomas Lacqueur ### Research Assistant @ Feldman Labs @ Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute at UC Berkeley Jan 2026 – Present Playing with Lil Chungus (Mouse 103) and training ML models on time-series data ### Software Engineer @ Neurotech@Berkeley Jan 2026 – Present | Berkeley, CA Neuromorphic Project: Spikeformers Investigated efficiency mechanisms for Spiking Vision Transformers, implementing temporal early exit (SEENN-I) and spatial token pruning. Achieved 36% compute reduction with under 1% accuracy loss on CIFAR-10. ### ML Research Consultant @ Microsoft AI Jan 2026 – Present Working on MSN (via Neurotech @ Berkeley) ### Independent Researcher @ University of California, Berkeley Jan 2025 – Present | Berkeley, California, United States Conducting independent research on the limitations of Reinforcement Learning with Human Feedback (RLHF), including value pluralism, reward hacking, and the impossibility theorem of fairness in inherently biased large-scale human-sourced datasets. Developing a theoretical framework for internalized value learning, where AI agents learn from human datasets while evaluating information through an internal system of ethics and objectives, enabling moral reasoning rather than mere imitation of observed behavior Surveying existing literature in RL, cognitive science, and moral philosophy, and connecting them to alignment mechanisms. Collaborating with Google engineer on a blog-style project to communicate technical research insights to a broader audience. Current Research: 1."Reinforcement Learning through Human Feedback (RLHF) may not be enough" (Presented at CITRIS and Banatao Institute Tech Policy Symposium, paper coming soon) 2. Investigation of Emotion in RL ### AI/DS Student Pipeline Organizer- UCI Texera @ UC Irvine Jan 2025 – Jan 2025 Spearheaded a cross-institutional collaboration between UCI’s Texera Team and El Camino College to expand access to no-code data science education among underrepresented student populations. Designed a scalable, student-led workshop model to introduce Texera’s visual data workflow platform, empowering learners with limited coding experience to build and analyze end-to-end data pipelines under the guidance of Prof. Chen Li and the UCI Texera Team. ### AI/Data Science Club Founder/President @ Cerritos College Jan 2024 – Jan 2025 | Cerritos, California, United States Founder and President of the AI/Data Science Club at Cerritos College. After winning a National Data Science Competition held by the American Statistical Association (ASA TYC DataFest 2024), our team decided to create a club to learn and develop our skills in AI, Data Science, and Computer Science. Projects: 1. Destroy the Chess Club: Creating a Chess Bot from Complete Scratch [ELO 1700] - Created two Chess Bots from scratch, utilizing insights from Genetic Algorithms, Reinforcement Learning, and Game Theory. [Our bot won against all chess club members at Cerritos College] 2. Project Tensorflow: Creating Neural Networks from Scratch: - Created a Neural Network class allowing flexible Layer and Model classes that allow forward propagation, backpropagation, training, evaluation, and prediction using only Numpy, Python, and Math. [Neural Network trained on MNIST Database with 91% accuracy] We have been focusing on creating a strong foundational base and understanding behind various algorithms and AI architectures, and are working to leverage this knowledge to solve real-world problems. The AI/Data Science club continues to work on making math and computer science accessible to everyone. ### Math Tutor/Data Scientist @ Cerritos College Jan 2024 – Jan 2025 | Cerritos, California, United States After receiving a recommendation from my math professor, I have been working at Cerritos College as a Math Tutor/TA to help students develop their mathematical and analytical skills. Currently, I've been (unofficially) promoted as a data analyst/scientist collecting student data and identifying trends to help expedite/automate workflow. Some major projects I've created include: 1. Creating an efficient data collection system for tutoring sign-ins 2. Creating a student database for student searches 3. Bot Finding and Dual Enrollment Prevention Algorithms 4. Data Dashboard and Analytics for identifying sign-in trends and activity I started my tutoring journey during my first year at Cerritos College after noticing a lot of students struggling in math and computer science. With the goal of empowering students by making math and computer science accessible to everyone, I've gained a tremendous amount of insight into how students learn and process information over the past few years. Throughout this journey, I found myself being able to digest and explain complex topics as I would to a 5th grader, quickly identifying strengths and weaknesses in students and using them to fill in missing information and help build a strong foundational base that would help students overcome and excel in upper division courses. ### CIS Club Vice President @ Cerritos College Jan 2024 – Jan 2025 | Cerritos, California, United States Vice President of the CIS (Computer Informational Sciences) Club at Cerritos College. Working to develop a strong community of computer science students and help students put their foot through the door of computer science. ### Robotics Club (CCETC) Vice President @ Cerritos College Jan 2023 – Jan 2024 | Cerritos, California, United States Vice President of CCETC (Cerritos College Engineering Technology Club) Robotics Club at Cerritos College In charge of autonomous mode programming to compete at VEX Robotics Competitions. Implemented PID system and assisted in creating multithreading for efficient execution. Role: Programming Lead Awards: VEX Robotics - Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Gear Slingers Competition Judges Award We're on the school newspaper! https://www.cerritos.edu/connections-2024/03/03.11/default.htm ## Education ### Bachelor of Arts - BA in Computer Science University of California, Berkeley ### Cerritos College ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/benjamin-j-lee0 --- Source: https://flows.cv/benjaminlee JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/benjaminlee/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-10
