# Benjamin Peyrot > Staff Software Engineer at Instacart 🥕 Location: San Francisco, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/benjaminpeyrot Software engineer. Passionate about taking ideas from Proof of Concept to production with software. Extremely curious, I like to learn most about anything that flies or goes fast. ## Work Experience ### Staff Software Engineer @ Instacart Jan 2021 – Present ### Senior Software Engineer @ Instacart Jan 2019 – Jan 2021 | San Francisco ### Tech Lead @ Scoot Networks Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | San Francisco, California ### Senior Software Engineer @ Scoot Networks Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | San Francisco, California ### Chief Technology Officer @ WOO Sports Jan 2017 – Jan 2019 | Région de la baie de San Francisco, États-Unis Leading a team of 5, working remotely from San Francisco. We turn action sports into a big online game - play Tony Hawk Pro Skater in the real world vs. the TV screen. We created the WOO - an innovative wearable for action sports that measures things like airtime, jump height, g-force among many other key metrics. Our stack is made of: Python, Ruby, Rails, PostgreSQL, Mongo, AWS (S3, RDS, EC2, Lambda, CloudFront), Nginx, Serverless, Scikit-learn, C, React, Swift, Objective-C, Java. * Implementation of best practices: Code Reviews, Unit testing, and building a strong engineering culture in an effort to augment software quality. Managing of app release cycles, coaching and mentoring of individuals in the team. Technical interlocutor with product manager and rest of the company, managing expectations, roadmaps and deadlines. * Rewrote the backend from scratch, the new Python backend lives on AWS Lambda functions via serverless. We are using a custom made deployment process and architecture on top of Serverless allowing us to overcome limitations of the framework. This technology offers a high scalability at a low cost. * Engineered a Proof of Concept Apple watch app in Swift to showcase the possibilities of using GPS to record Kiteboarding data.
When WatchOS 4 became available in September 2017, I iterated on the prototype app to connect it to the WOO via BLE and display real time jump heights from the sensor. This became a key feature of the WOO 3.0 product. * Built a low cost RTK (Real Time Kinematik) system to serve as ground truth and help assessing and refining our jump detection algorithms. It offers centimeter-level accuracy at a relatively high sampling rate of 5 Hz. * Implemented a suite of solutions to provide WOO results in real time during events, leveraging existing channels such as Slack and Intercom to broadcast the data.
Covered events include Red Bull King of the Air 2017 and 2018, Sosh Big Air 2017, and Banked Air 2018. ### Lead Software Engineer @ WOO Sports Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 | Région de Amsterdam, Pays-Bas ### Back-end software engineer @ Cheerz.com Jan 2015 – Jan 2016 | Région de Paris, France I Joined a team of 10 software engineers, and worked on back end projects, written in Ruby on Rails, with Postgres databases: * Implemented new payment providers (iDeal and Stripe) * Implemented express delivery * Worked on multiple API endpoints and design * Test driven development with Rspec * Lead development with Agile/Scrum ### Co Founder - CTO @ Wizeloop Jan 2014 – Jan 2015 I was in charge of choosing, implementing, and maintaining the full stack of software technologies empowering the Ruby on Rails web application. * Optimized the performance, cutting in half the server response and page load time, respectively through Ruby/SQL and Javascript optimization. * Designed and developed a cloud video encoding solution, processing videos through Motion-Compensated Frame Interpolation (MCFI) to create slow-motion from original files. Selected technologies were Amazon EC2+S3, a private API via Ruby on Rails, Resque for the jobs queues management, Twixtor, After Effects, and FFmpeg for video processing. * Integrated geolocation through Google Maps in back-back-end and front-end, and using a standalone server for location detection based on IP. * Implemented real-time communication between the back-end and the clients through web sockets and a standalone Node.JS server communicating with the main Ruby on Rails app via a nosql data structure store (Redis). ### Intern Engineer @ Florida Atlantic University Jan 2013 – Jan 2013 Investigation of pultruded fiberglass rails failure. Standards examination, design of experiments, samples preparation, analysis. ### Engineer Trainee @ Tropiccool Jan 2013 – Jan 2013 As a trainee, I helped build the very first bricks of this startup. Working closely with the founder, I was in charge of production and sales, and I also created the website of the company. ### Technician on the A340 assembly line @ Airbus Jan 2010 – Jan 2010 As part of a worker internship: Worked during one month on the assembly line of the A340 family on the site of Saint-Nazaire. Section 11-14 : Installation of water, air, hydraulic and electric systems. Testing of the same circuits at the end of assembly. ## Education ### Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in Conception et Industrialisation des Systèmes Mécaniques EIGSI - École d'ingénieurs généralistes Jan 2010 – Jan 2015 ### Ingénierie aérospatiale in aéronautique et astronautique Ecole Supérieure des Techniques Aéronautiques et de Construction Automobile Jan 2009 – Jan 2010 ### Baccalauréat Scientifique Lycée Notre dame Les Oiseaux Jan 2006 – Jan 2009 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/bpeyrot --- Source: https://flows.cv/benjaminpeyrot JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/benjaminpeyrot/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-23
