# Bhaskar Sarma Upadhyayula > Engineer Location: Cupertino, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/bhaskarsarmaupadhyayula Strong technical leader with experience solving complex problem using cloud technologies. Experience in diverse backgrounds: developing SaaS products, writing network protocols, programming embedded systems, with close to 20 years in industry. Cloud: + Building SaaS products using AWS technologies, using Python ecosystem. + Comfortable with Java, C, C++. ## Work Experience ### Principal Software Engineer @ Palo Alto Networks Jan 2018 – Present | Santa Clara Currently building Observability function for a SaaS product on Azure. Early engineer on Cloud NGFW for AWS product. Architect of many key aspects of the product: a) Introduced AWS CDK into development, shifting left entire DevOps function. b) Built Audit Logging functionality. It helped customer gain visibility into the product. c) Solved Observability problems for engineers by building AWS X-Ray into the product. Architected many key contribution to Prisma Access. a) Enabled Prisma Access to run on multiple clouds. Prisma Access 1.0 was running on AWS. My team and I, designed a new architecture to make it run on multiple clouds, with GCP as second cloud. Eventually, GCP became default cloud of choice for Prisma Access. b) Rewrote the production rollout playbook. We brought down upgrade cycle from 5 days to 1 day with significant reduction in upgrade failures. ### Cloud Software Engineer @ Aruba, a Hewlett Packard Enterprise company Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | Santa Clara, CA Backend engineer for building Monitoring, Reporting and Troubleshooting (MRT) applications in the cloud for Aruba's SDWAN solution. Architecture: Microservices, running Docker containers deployed on AWS Orchestration: Kubernetes Data Layer: Prostgres, Cassandra, KairosDB (depending on the need) Communication: RabbitMQ, Kafka Data Aggregation/Crunching: Apache Spark Backend: Python + Flask web framework ### Senior Software Engineer @ Hewlett-Packard Enterprise Jan 2015 – Jan 2018 | Palo Alto, CA Develop L2/L3 and infrastructure features of OpenSwitch NOS [http://openswitch.net/] Responsible sFlow (Sampling Flow) design and implementation on as5712 switch (Broadcom BCM 567XXX chipset). ### Senior Software Engineer @ Ericsson Jan 2013 – Jan 2015 | San Jose, CA Developer for Bridging/VPLS module. I worked on porting and enhancing the module from SEOS on SE1200 boxes to IPOS on SSR platform.Worked on QoS features (rate limiting of broadcast/multicast) in addition to bridging features such as loop detection, MAC aging etc. Design and implementation of BVI (Bridge Virtual Interface) feature on SSR for *high value* customers. Design and implementation of key bridging features on multiple platforms (SM400, Spitfire, SSR). Contributed to eVPN (Ethernet VPN) project during Phase 1 development. ### Software Engineer @ Ericsson Jan 2012 – Jan 2013 | San Jose, CA Developed features for Ethernet OAM protocol/module in IPOS, particularly, Connectivity Fault Management [CFM]. Developed following projects: (a) Event tracking infrastructure project to detect events and notify clients. This was developed for LAG client to be notified of constituent link states. (b) Implemented Ethernet OAM/CFM on each constituent of LAG for sub-second switchover in Multi-Chassis LAG environment. Developed 802.1q standard [VLAN] on Smart Edge OS & IPOS running on Smart Services Router [SSR]. Developed NextGen L2 circuit infrastructure for flexible VLAN tag manipulation, scalable VLAN implementation & feature delivery. ### Software Engineer @ Redback Networks, An Ericsson Company Jan 2007 – Jan 2012 | San Jose, CA 4+ years of development experience in 802.1q standard [VLAN] on Smart Edge OS & IPOS running on Smart Services Router [SSR]. Developed NextGen L2 circuit infrastructure for flexible VLAN tag manipulation, scalable VLAN implementation & feature delivery. ● Worked with and have good understanding of LAG, QoS, AAA & RADIUS protocols/standards. ● Have good understanding of PPP and PPPoE w.r.t subscriber management on 802.1q pvcs. ● Interacted with Packet Processing ASIC [PPA] and have good knowledge of infrastructure modules in IPOS. ## Education ### Master of Science (M.S.) in Computer Science Arizona State University ### Ethical Hacking and Network Defense City College of San Francisco ### Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati ### Little Flower High School ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/bhaskarupadhyayula --- Source: https://flows.cv/bhaskarsarmaupadhyayula JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/bhaskarsarmaupadhyayula/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-12
