# Bilal Karim > Product Design @Temporal • Previously @Shopify Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada Profile: https://flows.cv/bilalkarim I’m a Product Designer with 10+ years of experience building & scaling digital products across a variety of ecosystems. I turn complex systems into intuitive, high-impact experiences by combining product strategy, systems thinking, and deep care for visual craft. I’m currently at Temporal, designing their Cloud experience to help developers build failure-proof applications. Previously, I shaped the user experience at Shopify, PagerDuty, and startups, with work recognized by MIT, Google, and TechCrunch. ## Work Experience ### Staff Product Designer @ Temporal Technologies Jan 2024 – Present | Toronto, Ontario, Canada I lead UX for Temporal Cloud, where I help developers build fault-tolerant, durable applications with greater confidence. I design and refine key areas of the product including onboarding, account management and billing, security, and core developer workflows. As part of this, I work closely with Product and Engineering to clarify complex systems, improve usability, and launch high-impact features. My focus is creating clear, reliable experiences that deliver measurable value for Cloud customers. I’m also establishing practical ways to integrate AI tools into the design workflow to help teams explore faster, collaborate better, and ship more efficiently. ### Senior Product Designer @ Shopify Jan 2021 – Jan 2024 | Toronto, Ontario, Canada I designed several impactful ecommerce features at Shopify, including customer merging and gift card recipient flows, reducing friction for merchants and supporting adoption at scale. I owned the end-to-end delivery of UX improvements to Shopify’s Admin, from design through code implementation. Based on this experience, I created a trusted guide that enabled designers to ship PRs with confidence. This also enabled me to expand my React capabilities to meet Shopify’s engineering standards, and tackle challenges where design + code intersect. ### Staff Product Designer @ PagerDuty Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 | Toronto, Ontario, Canada I shipped omni-channel product experiences for incident response teams using PagerDuty Analytics, delivering value across web, Slack, and email for mid-market and enterprise customers. I mentored two junior designers as a player-coach, helping develop their skills and ensuring strong project execution. I led design advocacy efforts that improved product development practices and established UX metrics to unify cross-functional decision making. I collaborated with UX and Engineering teams to advance design systems and streamline tooling to improve efficiency and consistency across the organization. ### Senior Product Designer @ PagerDuty Jan 2019 – Jan 2020 | Toronto, Ontario, Canada ### Senior Product Designer @ Rubikloud Technologies Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | Toronto, Ontario, Canada I designed and developed product demos using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP to showcase AI and machine learning capabilities that improved forecast accuracy, inventory availability, and promotion planning for category managers in retail industry. My work contributed directly to winning a major North American enterprise retailer by delivering high-fidelity coded prototypes that supported Product and Engineering. I expanded the design system by collaborating with Product and Engineering to build a shared UI component library that streamlined development. I also advocated for design through lunch and learn sessions and active contributions to company culture. ### Product Design Lead @ MyHEAT Jan 2015 – Jan 2018 | Calgary, Alberta, Canada I was the first hire at MyHEAT, leading end-to-end product design and development across a responsive web app for homeowners, API-enabled widgets for utilities, and QA tools for internal teams. I scaled the web app from 10k homes in one city to 1.2 million homes across 15 Canadian cities by overseeing and managing the full product lifecycle. I employed agile practices with prioritized backlogs and weekly sprints to maintain strong execution and shipping velocity. I conducted user testing and validation through wireframes and prototypes for internal and external stakeholders. I also developed the company’s branding, identity, and marketing collateral to strengthen its presence and impact. ### Founding Employee (#1) @ MyHEAT Jan 2014 – Jan 2015 | Calgary, Alberta, Canada ## Education ### Master of Science (MSc) in Geography University of Calgary ### Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Geography University of Calgary ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/bilalkarim --- Source: https://flows.cv/bilalkarim JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/bilalkarim/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-31
