It was noted that one of the best ways to engage with students would be to still gain first-hand experience of how a student council operates, and gage better what changes are needed and the outcomes of how they directly affect students. At the same time, I still served as a member of Student Council, assisting with student council affairs and endeavours happening throughout the year. As the Executive Advisor, I also attended school admin meetings, gathering bi-weekly to discuss the concurrent issues and changes happening on a school level. I acted as a representative of the student body as well as student council, contributing a student perspective on changes that would directly affect students. ### Secretary @ Richmond Hill High School Student Council Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 | Richmond Hill High School, Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada The Secretary is the component that keeps operations running as smoothly and efficiently as possible. To achieve this, the secretary must be organized, knowledgeable, and have impeccable note-taking skills. The secretary is responsible for recording every discussion and decision the Council makes in weekly ‘minutes’, which they will send to StuCo members, teacher advisors, and the administration in a prompt manner. The secretary is the one who thinks of the little details others missed out on, the one who is prepared for every possible outcome, as well as backup plans. The secretary must be a quick thinker and a fast learner, unafraid to voice your opinions. They must be consistent, practical, and efficient. Essentially, they are the one who thinks of all the questions, but often, they are also the one with all the answers. Elected as Secretary, I embodied these traits, as well as completed all the components of work for the Secretary. Aside from the weekly minutes, I also created thorough schedules for events and activities hosted by student council, and mandated the communication between Student Council members. I ensured that everyone was up to date on the progress of their projects, enforcing deadlines to each member, and ensuring quality is maintained in each member's performance. As the oil between the hinges, I kept Student Council organized and efficient. ### Social Convenor @ Richmond Hill High School Student Council Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 | Richmond Hill High School, Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada Social Convenor of Student Council is required to be social, outgoing, and organized. As an executive of Student Council, the Social Convenor must have initiative, creative thinking, and apply problem solving to real life scenarios. Elected as Social Convenor, I worked together with the student body as well as the rest of student council in order to organize the best possible events for all parties. Events include: an annual Halloween Dance (including arranging music, food, and a haunted house) with around 200 attendees, an annual Semi-Formal Dance (including arranging venues, decorations, food, a ticketing system, a coat system, and scheduling) with around 600 attendees, an annual Carnival event (including arranging volunteers, food trucks, rides, activities, and a ticketing system) with over 1200 attendees. Grade Representatives must consider the opinions and concerns of fellow students in their respective grade. Elected as Grade 9 Representative for the 2015-2016 school year, I helped serve as the liaison between Student Council and the student body, representing the voice of the students to create change within the school community. ### Student Trustee Board Member (Elected) @ York Region District School Board Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | Richmond Hill, Ontario Student Trustees act as a liaison between the school community and the Board.
