# Brendan Patterson > Director of Product Design at Simpplr | Architecture, logic, and care disguised as simplicity. Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/brendanpatterson I make complex things clear and simple. I design systems that scale, products that last, and experiences that feel like they’ve always belonged there. My work sits where design, product, and engineering collide — where ambiguity is high and every decision leaves a mark. I thrive in the early, messy stages: defining direction, aligning teams, and turning uncertainty into progress. I don’t do fluff. I don’t chase titles. I don’t leave problems for someone else to solve. Design, for me, is architecture, logic, and care disguised as simplicity. And on the good days — it still feels like the best job in the world. ## Work Experience ### Director of Product Design 🇺🇸 @ Simpplr Jan 2025 – Present | Redwood City, CA I Joined as Simpplr’s first product designer and grew from Senior Designer to Director of Product Design, scaling both the product and the design function from early startup to category leader. In the early years I worked across UX, visual design, frontend collaboration, and product strategy, building foundational 0→1 experiences. As the platform matured, my focus shifted to 0→100 scale: evolving core products, strengthening architectural foundations, and building systems to support enterprise growth without compromising simplicity. Today I lead product design strategy across the platform, partnering closely with the CEO, C-suite, Product, and Engineering leadership to align user experience with long-term business vision, analyst positioning, and market expansion. Impact - Built and led a global design team across three continents, establishing design as a strategic pillar of the company. - Defined and evolved core product architecture to ensure scalability, extensibility, and consistency across a rapidly expanding platform. - Created and institutionalized a robust design system, governance model, and documentation framework to support enterprise-grade complexity while keeping UX clear and intuitive. - Architected and launched major platform capabilities including newsletters, campaigns, surveys, analytics, onboarding, and other critical experiences. - Helped scale the company to 500+ customers and 1M+ active users, supporting multiple VC funding rounds. - Contributed to sustained industry recognition, including multiple Leader designations across the Forrester Wave and Gartner Magic Quadrant, along with G2 and IDC MarketScape Leader awards, and a SaaS Award for Best UX in Class. - Relocated from the UK to California to support the company’s next phase of growth. ### Principal Design Architect 🇺🇸 @ Simpplr Jan 2024 – Jan 2025 | Redwood City, California, United States ### Principal Design Architect 🇬🇧 @ Simpplr Jan 2024 – Jan 2024 | Brighton, England, United Kingdom ### Principal Product Designer 🇬🇧 @ Simpplr Jan 2022 – Jan 2024 | Brighton, England, United Kingdom ### UI/UX Design Lead 🇬🇧 @ Simpplr Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | Brighton, England, United Kingdom ### Senior UI/UX Designer 🇬🇧 @ Simpplr Jan 2017 – Jan 2021 | Brighton, England, United Kingdom ### Freelance UI/UX Designer & Front end Developer @ Brendan Patterson - UI/UX Design Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 | London, United Kingdom Working with my own clients, undertaking a wide range of projects and contracting for various agencies.
