# Brinna Thomsen > strategic designer helping startups increase conversion and engagement 👩‍💻 Location: New York, New York, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/brinna You know what’s crazy? Today, there are 1.3 biIlion websites and 8.93 million apps online. If a digital tool isn’t easy to use, another one is just a ‘back’ button away. As a freelance UX/UI designer, I help consumer start-ups grab attention in the crowded digital space and create valuable apps and websites that users can’t get enough of.

My job is really fun. I get to collaborate with brilliant entrepreneurs and bring new, exciting solutions to life. I also get to satisfy my curiosity by learning about different industries and demographics as I research how to build the perfect tool for them.

UX/UI design is a bit of trial and error. It’s kind of scientific. You do your research, make your best hypothesis and then test it. Rinse and repeat. I believe the best UX designers don’t just create incredible designs, they are also excellent communicators and leaders. I hope to bring each of my clients into the design process and make a point to clearly explain the reasoning behind each of my design decisions. I’m happy to say that my work has resulted in excellent App Store ratings and improved engagement metrics for my clients. If you could use a hand with your idea or existing product, please don't hesitate to reach out! As the sole designer at Prosper, my work on the product strategy and UX/UI helped land a feature as Apple's App of the Day & 4.9 stars in the App Store. ### Product Designer @ Versett Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | New York, NY As a product designer at Versett, I had the pleasure of working on the Getty Creative Insights website with two other designers. In the end, the site had a bounce rate of only 28% compared to 40-60% for similar sites. ### Product Design Intern @ Launchmetrics Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | New York, NY At Launchmetrics, I enhanced the user experience of their diverse & complex fashion tech products and prioritized finding solutions that were easy for engineers to implement. In my first month, I redesigned the event RSVP experience - a vital feature during fashion week & the most used feature on GPSradar. I also redesigned the mass mailing experience, simplifying the process of creating beautiful invitations to fashion events. ### Design Intern @ Exeq. Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | New York, NY As the second designer at fintech startup, Exeq, I helped develop the millennial-focused brand voice & polish up the product UI. In preparation for launch in August, I added a few improvements for the app, designed ads for facebook and instagram, wrote 400+ punchy descriptions to be used in the app & designed eye-catching marketing assets for NYU Welcome Week. ### Student Designer @ Cornell Tech Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 While participating in a collaboration between Cornell Tech and Parsons, I took part in four main studio courses with Cornell Tech's masters students. Alongside MBAs, technologists and lawyers, I practiced product development, startup idea generation, product management and startup development. I lead the product and communication design on two teams. In Fall 2016, my team created Pond (now Ursa), a product that helps design researchers conduct more efficient user research. Our hard work led way to a pilot with frog design the following summer. In Spring 2017, my other team developed Switch, an on-demand insurance platform designed specifically for freelancers. In March, we won the MIT Hackathon and were able to present our idea to Mike Bloomberg in May. At the end of the school year, Cornell Tech awarded 100K to 4 startup teams to spin out their companies (out of 30+ teams). Both of the teams that I worked on won. ### Research Assistant @ Parsons School of Design - The New School Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 | Greater New York City Area In order to promote computational artwork at Parsons, Professor Justin Bakse and I developed an art sharing platform for generative artists. We user tested it with the students in his class, Computational Form. ### Design Intern @ Venamour Jan 2015 – Jan 2015 | Greater New York City Area During summer of 2015, I interned at Venamour, a Brooklyn-based design studio that creates artful wedding ephemera and stationery. I played an hands-on role by completing in-house design work, managing inventory & packing stationary orders. Under the mentorship & amazing talent of Lisa Hedge and Vanessa Saba, I learned the importance of perfecting every detail. ## Education ### Bachelor’s Degree in Design and Visual Communications, General Parsons School of Design - The New School ### Product Studio in Startup Ideas, Product Managment & Startup Studio Cornell Tech ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/brinna-thomsen - Website: http://brinnathomsen.com --- Source: https://flows.cv/brinna JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/brinna/resume.json Last updated: 2026-02-23
