In the Sensors Center I was heavily involved in design, assembly, test, as well as low-volume production of electro-optical military systems. This required close interaction with machine shops, vendors, as well as the customer. Projects entailed development, optical alignment, system integration with software and hardware, document control, quality control, and required critical problem solving.
My core project was to design a mechanism in order to study a newly discovered optical coating process. After researching the subject, I purchased and fabricated components needed to retrofit a vacuum chamber. After installing the new equipment, successful tests were completed.
At Toyota, I worked in the technical specialist group where I primarily focused on specification analysis. I had the opportunity to test and evaluate several prototype trucks. When newer parts arrived, the trucks were upgraded to meet current industry standards. Late in the summer, there was an exciting opportunity to travel to Indiana to see a manufacturing plant and learn about Kan-Ban production.
