From problem definition and product strategy to interaction design and prototyping, Caitlin loves solving complex problems from start to finish. ## Work Experience ### Staff Product Designer @ Duolingo Jan 2022 – Present | Seattle, Washington, United States 2024+ Bringing Duolingo Math to the masses. Hybrid coach / player. 2022 – 2023 I was the designer and team-lead for Duolingo ABC, a product in the Duolingo suite that teaches kids how to read in their first language. I led a redesign of our in-lesson experience to improve learning value, immersion, and delight. I also led design and product management for new teacher features such as classroom creation and student management as well as seasonal experiences and more. ### Staff Product Designer @ Tally Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | Seattle, WA Lead designer on the member experience for current Tally users. My work improved the way that members add, manage, and utilize credit card and bank accounts to best pay down their credit card debt. I also was the Growth Lead (PM+Design) for 9 months. I created and executed a team strategy and roadmap, managed our projects and experiments across iOS, Android, and Web, while also designing end to end solutions. ### Senior Product Designer II @ Tally Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 I led an onboarding redesign to update the experience to the new brand. I designed and released a series of experiments that streamlined the UX, reduced technical debt, and improved conversion. ### Senior Product Designer @ Gusto Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 | New York, United States I was the founding designer for Gusto's NYC office in 2019. I helped open and grow the office over 7 months. In addition to designing, I built norms for cross-functional collaboration and a hybrid work environment. I led design for new and existing products such as onboarding checklists, scaling Gusto for larger customers, performance management, and software provisioning. I also scaled the design team education series I founded (Eat&Educate), drove improvements to accessibility and inclusion, and contributed to our design system. ### Product Designer I + II @ Gusto Jan 2018 – Jan 2020 | San Francisco, CA I researched, designed, and shipped improvements to products like time off, offer letters, and permissions for managers. I led research & visioning for the future of hiring & onboarding. I scaled and co-ran Green Gusties, initiated an A11Y internal working group, started a design team educational series (Eat&Educate), and led a rebrand of our HR team. ### Product Design Intern @ Gusto Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | San Francisco, CA I led research and design on a customer service chatbot, planned and executed an accessibility event with A11Y Bay, founded the SF chapter of our internal green group (Green Gusties), and wrote about my experience to share with other new designers. ### Designer-in-Residence @ Designation Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | Chicago, Illinois I was a project manager, mentor, and assistant creative director for UX/UI designers. I managed students, developed curriculum, graded assessment and provided feedback. led daily standups, facilitated peer critiques, created workshops, and managed sprint planning for team projects. I also initiated and led a number of independent projects, including: • Revised team contracts to encourage active implementation and create scaffolding for creative conflicts, improving designer soft-skill development. • Journaling project to improve reflection, synthesis, and case study writing. • New curriculum to boost understanding of accessibility design and prototyping using Principle. • Updated analytical framework for evaluating exit interviews, resulting in deeper insights on program trends and areas of educational opportunity. ### Product Designer @ Designation Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | Chicago, Illinois My projects applied aspects of user experience, user interface, and interaction design, as well as brand and content strategy. I determined business and user goals through research, ideation, and user testing. I created and iterated wireframes, interaction patterns, style tiles, high-fidelity designs, microinteractions, prototypes, and style guides for live clients including: Clickx. Clickx is an all-in-one digital marketing intelligence SaaS platform aimed at promoting growth within small and medium-size businesses. Through research, I determined an appropriate realignment of their visual brand tone of voice and UI. I improved the UX of their dashboard by creating a goal completion data visualization tool to contextualize user's individual progress. Project Decibel. Project Decibel is a mobile healthcare application making hearing health and wellness accessible to high-risk music industry professionals. We researched and tested how to best integrate the health and music industries to create a trustworthy and approachable product. Through user testing, I improved the user experience of their decibel meter by removing redundant features and incorporating new safety limits, accessibility-friendly blocked color-coding, and a dual-view gesture activated carousel for data visualization. ### UX/UI Designer @ Good Use Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 | San Francisco, California • Designed and consulted on UX, UI, and graphic design projects • Created, evolved, and consulted on sales and marketing materials, product branding, apparel, and packaging materials ### Science Teacher @ Menlo School Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 | Atherton, California • Collaborated with two other educators to redesign and realign the Menlo MS science curriculum to the Next Generation Science Standards using the Understanding by Design framework • Designed and taught a weather vane product design unit utilizing the Stanford d.school model teaching students how to concept, prototype, design, laser cut, build, test, reiterate, and present their designs as well as process journal • Designed and managed a global biodiversity project with Nova Academy (Nairobi, Kenya) and Tsai Hsing (Taipei, Taiwan) ### Associate STEM Teacher @ The Hamlin School Jan 2014 – Jan 2016 | San Francisco, CA • Co-wrote, managed, and taught an interdisciplinary water conservation Project-Based Learning unit.
