# Caleb Dueck > Building the tools for the AI gold rush. Location: Mountain View, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/calebdueck Developing firmware at Tesla to delight customers and keep them safe on the road. Previously - Embedded Engineer in Med-Tech - YouTube Inventor - And more Studied Mechatronics Engineering, it's as close as I could get to a degree in Professional Inventing. I enjoy seeing my firmware impact the physical world. I've successfully led many projects from concept to completion. ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Nexthop AI Jan 2025 – Present ### Body Controls Firmware Engineer @ Tesla Jan 2024 – Jan 2025 | Palo Alto, California, United States ### Embedded Researcher @ Palitronica Inc. Jan 2024 – Jan 2024 Research done as a part of the Real-time Embedded Software Group at the University of Waterloo. Working on both firmware and hardware to implement unique IDs for hot swappable RF modules. Building firmware for controlling new PCBs using Serial communication from a cloud connected PC. ### Embedded Engineer (Firmware / Hardware) @ FluidAI (formerly NERv Technology) Jan 2022 – Jan 2023 Helping bring FluidAI's BLE Medical device to market by working on both firmware and hardware. Reduced BOM cost and increased reliability by integrating SPI flash memory in HW and FW (wrote custom driver). Optimizing battery life by characterizing power consumption of various components and implementing changes to the hardware and firmware. Using Python to analyze and present data. Refactored entire firmware codebase. Wrote I2C drivers for flow sensors to support the research team. Designing hardware and firmware and both developing and executing test protocols with ISO quality requirements. Sourcing and validating new components to counter the chip shortage’s impact on the design. ### Mechatronics Engineering @ Hacksmith Entertainment Ltd. Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 Designed and built wearable hydraulic system with 4x 2 DOF hydraulically actuated arms. Controlled with a custom PCB I designed and programmed. This system replicated Spiderman's Iron-Spider armor. Invented a novel lightweight hydraulic power unit for analog control of the system. Developed a small scale electrical “Spidey Sense” that used a lidar, an ATtiny85, and fit on a flexible PCB the size of a quarter. Designed PCBs for and programmed the controls of the Mandalorian weapon system. Designed and manufactured a functional amban rifle which involved sheet metal forming, TIG welding, 3D printing, and an integrated taser. Responsible for designing screen accurate Solidworks models of Mando’s flamethrower, blaster, spear, rifle, and Fuse’s rocket gauntlet. ### Research Assistant @ Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, University of Waterloo Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 Research done as a part of the Real-time Embedded Software Group at the University of Waterloo. Working under Sebastian Fischmeister performing data acquisition for counterfeit analysis. Cut down test time through designing custom bash scripts. Analyzed data with Python. ### Electrical Team @ Waterloo Formula Electric Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 Designed boards using Altium Designer Responsible for maintaining the high voltage charge cart and ensuring it met safety standards ### Electrical Engineering @ 151 Research Inc. Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 Performed self directed research, investigating thermal management solutions for their product. Developed an Arduino based thermal data acquisition system and designed the test procedure. ### Mechatronics Engineering @ Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 Performed scripting and analysis for validation of Intellipark, the first electronic parking brake to be released in North America. Increased efficiency of CANalyzer data analysis over 200% by developing a custom macro. Created the report for the start of production software revision. ### Software Developer - Brain Team @ Bold Commerce Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | Winnipeg, Canada Area Helping give merchants automated suggestions and track their customers' experience to provide marketing insights. Owned a project that used Go for backend, React for frontend, and DB to integrate Klaviyo with the Bold Brain Shopify app. Researched GANs and their applications in ecommerce. Became accustomed to working in an agile environment. Became comfortable using gitlab for version control and code review. ### Electrical Designer, Programmer @ Eascan Automation Inc. Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Responsible for programming two robotic arms to sling pints at a local brewery. Designed and assembled an automation prototyping station valued at over $40 000. Designed and wired industrial control panels (Allen-Bradely and Siemens hardware). Started a 3D printing initiative for rapid prototyping. Assembly and fabrication experience in the machine shop. ### Mechanic's Assistant and Labourer @ Djn Services Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | Winnipeg, Canada Area Promoted from laborer to junior mechanic because I showed initiative. Became familiar with tractor-trailer trucks. Gained experience using a variety of tools torque wrench, impact wrench, company trucks etc. I learned to perform simple repairs and replace parts such as air valves, brake drums, tires, air bags, radiators, GPS units, etc. As a labourer I also spent time as a flag person and learned much about safety laws and regulations. ### Baker, Shelf Stocking Specialist @ Cloverleaf Grocery Ltd. Jan 2015 – Jan 2017 | Emo, Ontario I trained seven employees during my time at Cloverleaf. Implemented new techniques to increase product supply accuracy. Learned the skills for multiple positions (donut baker, cashier, meat room cleaning, stocking shelves). Ran the floor scrubber and looked forward to the day when I would have the skills to automate this job. ### SHAD @ SHAD UNB 2015 Jan 2015 – Jan 2015 | University of New Brunswick A summer program designed to empower motivated youth. Learned about a range of subjects from design, physics, entrepreneurship, marine biology, and engineering. Here I learned that I desired to pursue a career path in engineering. ### CEO and only employee @ Caleb's Lawn and Order Jan 2007 – Jan 2014 | Emo, ON I started a lawn mowing company which I worked at until I sold the my contracts and equipment to pursue greener pastures. ## Education ### Honours in Mechatronics Engineering University of Waterloo ### Theology in French Champfleuri a Torchbearers School - France ### Fort Frances High School ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/calebdueck --- Source: https://flows.cv/calebdueck JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/calebdueck/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-11
