# Caston Hilcher > Designing, creating, and maintaining scalable applications and services Location: Denver, Colorado, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/caston I've always wanted to make a difference in what I do. It took me a couple of years at University to realize I could make a difference doing something related to what I love. Technology. Thankfully, I had professors that encouraged and believed in me. Their encouragement allowed me to take a risk and switch to Computer Science. Ever since then, I have had no doubts about what I was going to do for a profession. In 2014, I was hired by USAA to help their platform for annuities add some key features like multiple sources of funding. We used Java (J2EE) and an internal UI language for the platform. From 2015 to 2017, I led a team of developers that worked on enhancing the customer experience for buying life insurance. This had many features, from increasing performance of web applications, to giving better streamlined experiences for our customer. Our team had a lot under our umbrella and we were able to do a lot of cool stuff. In 2017, I was moved back to the annuity space where I started leading a medium sized UI team that built up a new acquisition flow from the ground up using React for our frontend and integrating with Java REST APIs in a microservice based approach. In 2018, I was given the opportunity to travel to India to train our team on using our new technologies, React, GitLab (previously we used RTC), Openshift, and Docker. This was an amazing learning and cultural experience that has had a huge impact on my life and career. We released our product in 2019! The new platform added a new type of annuity that our consumers were ready to buy. Shortly after the release, I had the opportunity presented to join another well known San Antonio (and TEXAS) company, H-E-B. I decided I was ready to try something new and made the switch. Since then, I have been working for H-E-B and couldn't be happier. The culture of H-E-B is enriched with a "passion for people" and it truly gives meaning to all the work we do. Through hurricanes, tornados, deadly freezes, and pandemics, H-E-B is doing what is best for Texans. My first year, I joined a team to help with accounting and invoice reconciliation. We used Spring Boot, Angular, and GCP. Right before the start of my second year, the pandemic hit and now we are all working from home but the passion has not been lost. I moved to a new team shortly after the WFH move to be a tech lead on our inventory team. We are continuing to innovate and drive the grocery business forward. Overall, I have a passion for people, love to learn new things, and rise to the challenges given to me. Most of all, I am thankful. ## Work Experience ### Staff Software Engineer @ AgentSync Jan 2022 – Present | Denver, Colorado, United States ### Staff Software Engineer @ H-E-B Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | San Antonio, Texas, United States ### Site Reliability Engineer @ H-E-B Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 | San Antonio, Texas, United States ### Senior Software Engineer @ H-E-B Jan 2019 – Jan 2021 | San Antonio, Texas Area ### Senior Software Developer @ H-E-B Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | San Antonio, Texas Area ### Software Development Engineer @ USAA Jan 2016 – Jan 2019 ### Software Developer and Integrator III @ USAA Jan 2014 – Jan 2016 ### Resident Assistant @ Angelo State University Jan 2012 – Jan 2013 ## Education ### Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Business Administration and Management, General Angelo State University Jan 2015 – Jan 2017 ### Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Science Angelo State University Jan 2010 – Jan 2014 ### Clyde High School Jan 2006 – Jan 2010 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/caston-hilcher --- Source: https://flows.cv/caston JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/caston/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-23
