# Chris Grigg > Builds things real good Location: New York, New York, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/chrisgrigg Full-stack engineering leader with a track record of building products from zero to scale. I've been the first engineer taking hardware products to market, a Staff Engineer improving systems for 300k+ users, and a founder growing a community platform to 1000+ paying members through pure word-of-mouth. I thrive in high-ownership environments, whether that's architecting entire systems, leading technical initiatives across teams, or mentoring engineers on code quality and design. Equally comfortable writing embedded firmware, building React apps, or planning cloud infrastructure. I bring a builder's mindset to everything, shaped by years as a working musician where attention to detail and systems thinking are everything. Currently on the Software Engineering team at Cinder where I am helping to build a safer, more secure world digital world. I also founded Ampwall, a Public Benefit Corporation building an e-commerce platform for independent music communities - TypeScript/React/Next.js, serverless architecture on AWS, complex relational data, multi-currency payments. Previously first engineer at Proteus Motion (intelligent fitness hardware for NFL/MLB teams) and Staff Engineer at Shippo, leading a 6-person core UI team serving 300k+ customers. ## Work Experience ### Senior Software Engineer @ Cinder Jan 2026 – Present | New York, United States ### Software Engineer & Founder @ Ampwall Jan 2023 – Present | New York, United States Building Ampwall, a mission-driven Public Benefit Company building an innovative e-commerce marketplace and community platform connecting music scenes, artists, and fans. It draws from my lifetime of experience as a touring musicians and songwriting combined with my career as a software engineer. I'm architecting and building the entire platform from the ground up alongside a small dedicated team. Currently serving 1000+ paying members and 110k monthly visitors, managing 2TB of user content with a highly relational data model that supports complex artist/album/track relationships. On the technical side, we were early adopter of Next.js Server Components to optimize performance for complex relational queries. Combined with aggressive caching, pagination, and React Suspense, we maintain a responsive user experience despite deeply nested data dependencies. Some interesting technical challenges we've tackled: • Implemented multi-currency PayPal commerce supporting both Personal and Business accounts, balancing platform accessibility with checkout experience • Implemented a serverless audio transcoding pipeline using AWS Lambda and Step Functions to orchestrate multi-file album processing, handling memory-intensive operations with automatic retry logic • Built a comprehensive fraud detection and mitigation system with tiered security responses and a Slack-based admin CLI for rapid response • Manage the full infrastructure stack: ECS deployments, Lambda functions, Postgres with Redis job queues, and Cloudflare CDN Technologies: TypeScript, React, Next.js, React Native, AWS (ECS, Lambda, Step Functions), PostgreSQL, Redis, Go, Pulumi, Cloudflare ### Staff Software Engineer @ Shippo Jan 2022 – Jan 2023 Served as technical leader for a 6-person core UI team supporting 300k+ customers across Shippo's shipping label creation and order management dashboards, with influence across the 30-engineer frontend organization. Key accomplishments: • Led a ground-up rebuild of the order management dashboard, migrating from a legacy Redux/Saga architecture to modern React hooks with MUI DataGrid. Used feature flags for a zero-downtime migration affecting 100% of web users. • Drove a cultural shift from QA-owned to engineer-owned Playwright testing, which eliminated weekly production errors that had been eroding customer and leadership confidence. These patterns were adopted by multiple teams across the org. • Spearheaded organization-wide TypeScript strict mode adoption across 30+ engineers, improving type safety and development velocity. • Provided technical leadership through architecture reviews, code reviews, and mentorship while managing cross-functional coordination with PM, design, and engineering leadership. ### Senior Software Engineer @ Shippo Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 • Spearheaded the redevelopment of the order management front-end, enhancing user experience and performance. • Collaborated with product and design teams to accurately implement features, ensuring alignment with the overall vision. • Championed type safety and reusable React components, fostering a culture of quality and efficiency among developers. ### Senior Software Engineer @ Reaktor Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 | New York, United States Software development in a highly collaborative full-stack team of senior developers. TypeScript, Python, Vue.js, Node.js, Flask. ### Lead Software Engineer at Proteus Motion Inc. @ Proteus Motion Jan 2016 – Jan 2021 | Greater New York City Area First engineering hire at Proteus Motion, taking our intelligent fitness hardware from prototype to commercial release. Ended with ~100 installations (at $30k each) with many NFL and MLB teams and D1 colleges, serving over 10,000 athletes. As the sole engineer for the first 3 years, I architected the entire software ecosystem: • React web app (TypeScript) with Ruby/TypeScript/Python APIs • Electron and Go applications for system management • Full AWS infrastructure, CI/CD, Docker configs, and monitoring • Android Kiosk app (Kotlin/Jetpack Compose) for Proteus 2.0 • Serial data connections and proprietary Bluetooth LE integration • ROS environment (C++/Python) and embedded firmware • React Native mobile app and first-gen Bluetooth controller firmware The Android Kiosk work was particularly interesting - I handled everything from the UI to Bluetooth LE hardware communication, serial data protocols, CI automation, and the OTA update system. I worked directly with our founder, hardware engineers, and end users (professional athletes and trainers) to deliver on the product vision. ### Senior Software Developer @ Jukely Jan 2015 – Jan 2016 | Brooklyn, NY • Managed a JSON API that supports all Jukely platforms, enhancing both client-facing and internal functionalities. (Ruby) • Collaborated with cross-functional teams to design and implement new features, improving overall platform performance. • Refactored brittle business logic and added comprehensive tests, significantly reducing system outages. • Transitioned to a full-stack role, focusing on React/Redux to develop essential tools for staff and promoter partners. ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/chris-grigg-05744868 - Website: https://ampwall.com --- Source: https://flows.cv/chrisgrigg JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/chrisgrigg/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-22
