# Chuk Moran > Platform Product Designer Location: Oakland, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/chuk UX design is a political compromise between technologies, business models, and people. A good design is a compromise that works well for all three. My PhD focused on the development of user interaction in the proliferation of computer technology. I actually wrote the dissertation on the lowly undo command, and how it seems to contradict our sense of what time really is, but actually extends and mutates it. The mission is very reasonable: we should use AI to review a lot of compliance paperwork and help people comply with existing standards such as SOC 2. ### Senior Product Designer @ TruSyft Jan 2024 – Jan 2024 Product design turning a clear concept into all the specific flows and screens for a valuable first release B2B product. It is an open source project, with content coming from volunteer contributors, and a very small staff in charge of the site and how it handles the data. I interpreted and wrote a white paper on the org's first UX survey and designed a mockup for a new visual design for dozens of page types on the site. I've also been producing working prototypes of site elements (such as tables and sidebars) in bootstrap and implementing the redesign in a Django templated site. ### Lead Designer & Founder @ Unicorn Garden Jan 2015 – Jan 2016 This company has been a vehicle to develop baseball cards for startup companies. I used a Kickstarter runway (closed successfully at 120% of the target) and built the technological backend almost entirely in Python and JSON, which was actually rather fun. ### Communications and Business Analyst @ Apparent, Inc. Jan 2015 – Jan 2015 | Novato, CA Apparent's key value propositions of solar+storage, virtual power plants, and instantaneous dynamic reactive power control have never before been rigorously defined. As business analyst, this was my job. This provided a tremendous opportunity at forecasting, preparing business documents, putting together presentations on something most people have still never heard of, and conducting energy analysis with variables rarely used before in the industry. As a small company, I also worked in searching and eventually closing on terms with a finance partner to get the technology deployed and spent a fair amount of time preparing materials for and meeting with investors. I particularly enjoyed following the rapidly shifting regulatory scene, closely following PUC filings, working directly with the former Chairman of FERC (the highest position in energy regulation in the US) and incorporating variables from policy that was still being written in energy/financial analysis. I also benefitted from working closely with a very experienced CFO, which was a great mentorship experience. ### Brand Identity Developer @ CleverPet Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 | San Diego, CA Brand development, figuring out the story, reviewing similar companies' written style/approach, writing for updates/blog. The company wanted to cultivate a "clever" image, while addressing the very different "love your dog" pet market and the "love your open API" technophile market at the same time. Some history of domestication of dogs, some science of canine perception, and some testimonials about pets at the beach. ## Education ### UX Design General Assembly ### PhD in Communication UC San Diego ### BA in Gender Studies University of Chicago ### Bellarmine College Preparatory ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/chukmoran - Portfolio: http://www.chukmoran.com --- Source: https://flows.cv/chuk JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/chuk/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-13
