# Claire Chen > Software Engineer @ Reddit Location: San Francisco, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/clairechen1 I grew up in Tracy, California, the rural neighbor of the buzzing Silicon Valley. With an electrical engineer for a dad, it’s safe to say that technology and engineering has been present in my life from the moment I was born. As a child, I loved solving any puzzle I could get my hands on, even ones as mysterious as where my parents hid the snacks. Years later, my propensity for logical thinking and knack for processing inputs and outputs has led me to pursue a B.S. in computer engineering at California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo. At Cal Poly, I am a part of the Society of Women Engineers and have spent the greater part of my first-year working on the VTOL team for the Northrup Grumman Collaboration Project. As part of my coursework, I have programmed and assembled an autonomous, line-following robot and used machinery to build a frequency responsive LED light box, frequently collaborating with classmates to troubleshoot problems and to brainstorm smarter solutions. On weekdays, I can be found bright and early at 6:30 a.m. trading options while brewing a fresh cup of coffee, and during my downtime, I can be found learning the piano, dancing with UM, or cozying up with a K-drama. Languages: Python, Java (in-progress) ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Reddit, Inc. Jan 2025 – Present ### Software Development Engineer II @ Amazon Jan 2024 – Jan 2025 | San Luis Obispo, California, United States * Designed and implemented Lambdas to process and store user-uploaded metrics dataset overrides, enabling customers to evaluate planned delivery area changes against various forecasted metrics. * Added Glue Visual ETL jobs to ingest and transform metric datasets from upstream research science, enabling the evaluation of delivery area plan efficiency. * Added file upload and CSV download React components, utilizing lodash for immutable, functional-style code. * Created a set of pseudo-batch React hooks as a time-saving, stopgap solution in order to prioritize other tasks that directly contributed to the MVP delivery. * Triaged and resolved tickets for the team’s services, including a Tier-1 use-case. Contributed to operational excellence by resolving bugs, improving website performance, investigating missing analytics data, and addressing software campaigns. ### Software Development Engineer @ Amazon Jan 2023 – Jan 2024 | San Luis Obispo, California, United States * Gathered requirements, project planned, and delivered the addition of new delivery mode to a delivery area planning tool within a 4-month timeline, saving stakeholders 800+ hours year in planning time and ~3MM in delivery costs. * Tracked project timelines and communicated project and blockers to higher management and stakeholders, ensuring risks are addressed early on and expectations are correctly set. * Designed and implemented a generic DynamoDB table and a set of APIs in CDK to store user actions, allowing the team to track the adoption of new features. * Leveraged IAM to create a custom set of client permissions for a single API Gateway endpoint supporting multiple APIs, ensuring the enforcement of both authorization and rate limiting. * Developed 36 fine-grained, access control permissions to manage website actions for 192 resource and action permutations. ### Jr. Developer @ Amazon Jan 2022 – Jan 2023 | San Luis Obispo, California, United States * Created CloudWatch alarms to monitor the health of APIs. Derived the alarming threshold, number of datapoints to alarm, and evaluation period from historical error rates. * Implemented and added integration tests to a CI/CD deployment pipeline, reducing manual deployment interventions and improving team deployment efficiency. * Added validation to a delivery area publishing workflow to increase the visibility of failures to customers and prevent obfuscated downstream workflow errors. ### OCOB Help Desk Technician @ Cal Poly Orfalea College of Business Jan 2021 – Jan 2023 | San Luis Obispo, California, United States Assist students and faculty with printing, basic software and hardware support, and everyday questions Take inventory of hardware supplies and do bookkeeping for printing services ### VTOL Electronics Team Member @ Northrup Grumman Collaboration Project Jan 2019 – Jan 2020 | San Luis Obispo, California, United States Collaborated with the VTOL Electronics team to design and organize hardware for an autonomous VTOL aircraft. Designed a chassis for hardware components using SolidWorks. ## Education ### Bachelor of Science - BS in Computer Engineering California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/claire-chen-tt --- Source: https://flows.cv/clairechen1 JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/clairechen1/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-11
