# Colton Wiscombe > Product Designer | Mobile & Web Apps | Simplifying Complex Systems into User-Friendly Experiences Location: San Francisco, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/coltonwiscombe Product Designer with 20 years of experience simplifying complex B2B and consumer systems into intuitive, mobile-first products. Over the past year, my work has focused on AI-native, human-in-the-loop workflows, where trust, clarity, and system behavior matter as much as interface design. One of my core strengths is defining shared system models that help humans and AI reason together. This work creates clear mental models, strong guardrails, and coordinated behavior across complex workflows. I care deeply about making AI-driven systems understandable and usable, not just powerful. I build coded prototypes and scalable design systems to align teams early, surface edge cases, and reduce implementation risk, especially in products where data, automation, and human judgment intersect. My work spans zero-to-one product design, AI-assisted workflows, negotiation and decision-support tools, and large-scale operational systems. I’m most effective in early-stage or ambiguous environments where design helps shape not just interfaces, but how systems work. ## Work Experience ### Product Designer @ BRM Jan 2025 – Present | San Francisco, CA At BRM, I’m leading design on a zero-to-one, AI-native agreement intelligence product for finance teams managing hundreds to thousands of vendors. The work focuses on turning emailed contracts into decision-ready views—and fixing the places AI gets valuation wrong. A core part of my role has been shaping the system beneath the UI, including the data model, extraction flow, and human-in-the-loop verification needed to close critical gaps in AI-extracted agreements. One of the most impactful outcomes so far is the Agreement Reference View, which reduces orientation from minutes of PDF reading to seconds. In one case, a customer identified and cancelled a $10k vendor almost immediately after onboarding. I’ve also designed the AI-assisted negotiation experience, including guardrails, revision controls, and vendor-specific tools that help finance teams negotiate consistently at scale while keeping humans firmly in control. To move quickly and reduce risk, I use coded prototypes (React, Astro) to model concepts, surface edge cases early, and align the team on real system behavior. Alongside product work, I’ve formalized BRM’s visual system and design tokens, supporting both designer efficiency and AI-assisted workflows. ### Principal Product Designer @ Jolt Jan 2019 – Jan 2024 | Lehi, UT The tools I designed at Jolt are used daily across 18,000 restaurants, convenience stores, and grocery stores, improving accuracy and efficiency at scale and driving ~$3,000 in annual labor savings per location. Much of the work centered on designing for speed, flow, and muscle memory, especially for tasks repeated hundreds of times per day in high-pressure environments. That focus led to a UI framework that enabled label customization prior to printing and directly supported 2,700 print station sales in the first three months, contributing to a 6% increase in company revenue. When outdated scheduling tools started putting customer retention at risk, I led the redesign of Jolt’s scheduling module—a year-long initiative, delivered in eight structured phases, that replaced a core part of the product. Some of the highest-impact gains came from small, high-frequency interactions. Redesigning the PIN login experience around ergonomics reduced login time by 70% in locations using unique PINs. I also owned a large portion of Jolt’s hardware and systems integration work, designing the end-to-end experience for connecting Bluetooth thermometers, thermal label printers, LoRaWAN temperature sensors, and weight scales to the mobile app. To help the team scale, I built a design system with 340 custom Figma components and thousands of variants, improving cross-functional alignment and enabling engineers to ship faster. I also mentored four designers in design process, research methods, and advanced tooling. ### Product Design Contractor @ Freeplay Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 | Lehi, UT Tip volume increased 2,300% after a small but strategic change to the class and summary screens. At Freeplay, I focused on designing features that attracted high-profile fitness instructors and helped them earn beyond traditional subscription revenue. That work opened new monetization paths through in-person events, group sessions, boot camps, and personal training, expanding how instructors could use the platform. I also introduced a 90s-inspired login experience that allowed users to browse courses without creating an account first, reducing early friction and encouraging exploration before commitment. As the startup’s first official designer, I built the foundation for scale—architecting a design system with 108 custom Figma components aligned to React Native constraints, and creating 210 custom system icons to establish a cohesive, playful visual language across the product. ### Lead Product Designer, CRM @ DealerSocket Jan 2016 – Jan 2019 | Draper, UT At DealerSocket, I led the design of the CRM and Desking products used by thousands of automotive dealerships across the U.S., Canada, and Australia. The role required working across significant complexity. I partnered simultaneously with three product managers and nine engineering teams, helping align priorities while keeping the experience cohesive across products. One of the largest initiatives I led was a credit pre-qualification and compliance tool integrated with Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion, helping dealerships reduce risk and saving customers millions in inventory losses each year. I also oversaw the redesign of six legacy software tools, including the CRM mobile app, Desking tool, Service Scheduler, and Desk Log, improving day-to-day operational efficiency for dealership staff. I conducted qualitative research at 28 dealerships, using those insights to improve the mobile CRM experience and explore ways digital retail tools could increase transparency for consumers. To scale design across the organization, I architected a cross-platform design system that unified six core products and accelerated development. Alongside the work, I coached nine designers and seven product managers, raising usability standards across the product suite. ### Creative Director @ Adduco Media Jan 2015 – Jan 2016 | Lehi, UT I worked closely with a team of seven to deliver digital and print marketing work for a wide range of clients—from attorneys and restaurants to financial lenders and technology companies. At any given time, I was managing design assets for 20 brands simultaneously, coordinating with stakeholders and vendors to keep projects moving and campaigns consistent. Over the course of the role, I developed 15 unique marketing campaigns spanning digital ads, websites, landing pages, and trade show materials. One of the most satisfying improvements came from redesigning a restaurant’s catering menu, which reduced ordering time by 75% and made a measurable difference in day-to-day operations. ### Senior Product Designer & Developer @ Adboom Group Inc. Jan 2014 – Jan 2015 | San Diego, CA At Adboom, I designed and launched a landing page platform focused on improving conversion rates for nutraceutical products. The platform handled 1 million unique visitors in its first week, creating a fast feedback loop around what was actually working. A large part of the role centered on experimentation. I ran multivariate tests, analyzed results, and used those insights to drive design decisions that increased engagement and conversions. Alongside the platform work, I created digital and print assets for seven affiliate brands, supporting targeted marketing campaigns across multiple channels. ### Product Designer & Coded Prototyper, Canvas LMS @ Instructure, Inc. Jan 2013 – Jan 2014 | Salt Lake City, UT At Instructure, I worked on the Canvas Learning Management System, focusing on improving usability for both students and educators. My core contributions included a tabular grading interface, a tablet-friendly mobile app, and an online library of college courses, all aimed at simplifying complex academic workflows. I built interactive prototypes using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript, allowing the team to test ideas quickly and refine designs through real-time feedback. ### Product Designer & Developer @ Neutron Interactive Jan 2012 – Jan 2013 | Salt Lake City, UT At Neutron Interactive, I worked on digital experiences that connected prospective students with trade schools and colleges, supporting performance-driven marketing campaigns. The focus was on clarity and conversion. I designed interfaces that improved engagement and helped turn interest into action across high-volume traffic flows. Alongside the design work, I built and ran optimization tests, feeding results into a proprietary lead management system and improving campaign performance through tight design–data loops. ### Co-Founder, Designer, Developer @ Sept & Hazard Co.Ltd Jan 2011 – Jan 2012 | Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia I co-founded a small design agency in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, working directly with clients on both creative direction and execution. The work spanned strategy through production—designing and building websites, content management systems, and marketing campaigns. We also produced a wide range of print work, including album covers, billboards, and brochures, and collaborated with a local video production studio to create TV commercials as part of larger multimedia campaigns. ### Design and Development Team Lead @ PoleVault Media Jan 2010 – Jan 2011 | Salt Lake City, UT, USA At PoleVault Media, I led a small design and development team at a marketing and design agency. Because the team was small, leadership meant staying close to the work. I helped translate client goals into practical solutions, balanced project planning with hands-on execution, and ensured what we shipped was cohesive and well-crafted. ## Education ### B.A. in Theoretical Linguistics University of Utah ### Diploma in 2004 Viewmont High School ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/coltonwiscombe - Website: http://coltonwiscombe.com --- Source: https://flows.cv/coltonwiscombe JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/coltonwiscombe/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-05
