# Craig Tabita > Senior Software Engineer | Product & Platform Systems Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/craigtabita I’m a senior software engineer with 10+ years of experience building and scaling platforms across early-stage startups and large-scale infrastructure teams. Currently at Meanwhile, I’m an early engineering hire helping build and scale a regulated fintech platform, expanding the product from an initial offering into multiple financial products and distribution channels. My work spans full stack architecture, product development, platform migrations, and supporting growth through periods of rapid company expansion. Previously, I worked at Google Cloud on Anthos Config Management, where I helped design and ship Policy Controller, Google’s enterprise distribution of the open-source Gatekeeper project. I contributed to core Kubernetes policy and configuration systems, worked extensively in Go, and collaborated on open-source projects including Open Policy Agent and Gatekeeper. Earlier in my career, I built backend systems at Chariot and GoFundMe, working on API design, data modeling, and platform integrations in production environments serving customers at scale. I’m especially interested in roles that combine deep technical ownership with product thinking and team leadership, and I enjoy working in domains that involve complex systems, regulation, or infrastructure. Outside of work, I’m passionate about free and open-source software, privacy-preserving technologies, self-hosted systems, and Bitcoin. I’m also a Georgia Tech graduate (chemistry & economics) where I served as editor-in-chief of the student newspaper and was a goalie on the ice hockey team. ## Work Experience ### Senior Engineer @ Meanwhile Jan 2024 – Present | San Francisco, CA Early engineering hire building backend architecture and core product development, supporting the company’s growth through multiple fundraising rounds and expansion into new financial products and distribution channels. Design and implement major platform expansions, including: * Entity ownership of insurance policies * Policyholder referral programs * Distribution partner integrations * International customer support Lead development of new financial products, including repurchase agreements, collaborating closely with product, legal, and operations to translate complex financial requirements into scalable, production-ready systems. Designed extensible abstractions for application workflows (questionnaires, document requirements, attestations), enabling new products and regulatory changes to be implemented without repeated system redesigns. Build reporting, reconciliation, and CSV data-extraction pipelines to support accounting, finance, and compliance workflows. Play a key role in evolving the company’s technical platform, contributing to a phased migration from the original stack to a modernized architecture (Python, Next.js, React, TypeScript, AWS, Pulumi, Supabase). Act as a go-to engineer for production issues and customer escalations, participating in on-call rotations and driving rapid incident resolution. Support team growth by sourcing and interviewing candidates, onboarding new engineers, and helping scope and prioritize work as the engineering organization scales. ### Software Engineer @ Google Jan 2019 – Jan 2023 | San Francisco Bay Area Core contributor to Anthos Config Management (ACM), developing production systems in Go to enable secure, scalable Kubernetes configuration across multi-cloud and on-prem environments. Designed and implemented major components of Policy Controller, Google’s enterprise distribution of the open-source Gatekeeper admission controller, including APIs, CLIs, and end-to-end testing infrastructure. Carried out migration of Policy Controller from an ACM feature into a standalone product, contributing to product architecture, API design, and operational readiness. Designed and built a policy library and developer tooling to codify Kubernetes best practices, later adopted as the foundation for the upstream open-source Gatekeeper policy library. Contributed extensively to open-source projects including Open Policy Agent and Gatekeeper, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. ### Software Engineer @ Chariot Jan 2017 – Jan 2019 | San Francisco, California Developed and maintained backend APIs in Python supporting rider and driver applications for a large-scale commuter transportation platform. Helped lead backend migration efforts, designing APIs and database models to enable future dynamic routing and scheduling capabilities. Collaborated with product and operations to evolve backend systems in response to real-world usage and scaling needs. ### Software Engineer @ GoFundMe Jan 2015 – Jan 2017 | Los Angeles, California Backend and frontend engineer on CrowdRise, a charitable fundraising platform, contributing to core product features and platform stability prior to its acquisition by GoFundMe. Played a key role in integrating CrowdRise into the GoFundMe platform following the acquisition, helping deliver the GoFundMe Charity product. Collaborated across engineering and product teams to migrate systems, data, and workflows while maintaining continuity for existing customers. ### Software Engineer @ BeachMint Jan 2013 – Jan 2015 | Santa Monica, California ## Education ### Bachelor’s Degree Georgia Institute of Technology ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/ctabita --- Source: https://flows.cv/craigtabita JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/craigtabita/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-01
