# Dallas Torkelson > Full-stack SWE | React, TypeScript, Rails, Python Location: Brooklyn, New York, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/dallastorkelson Versatile full-stack generalist. Not interested in new roles right now. Particular specialty in React, Rails, and NodeJS. Passionate about good communication and collaboration. Big fan of handy CLI tooling and weird regex. Also enthusiastic about music, reading, cooking, and art. My technical experience is pretty split between frontend and backend development, but I generally have more opinions about backend architecture. I've participated on teams of various sizes in various roles, from a 2-person tiger team to tech lead for 4 other developers to an 8-person super-team. Good communication has been the make-or-break for every team I've been on so I dedicate myself to making sure team members are heard and everyone's in sync. ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Ontra Jan 2025 – Present ### Software Engineer III @ FloQast Jan 2024 – Jan 2025 | NYC - Remote Collaborated closely with director of product to translate ambiguous requirements into concrete features Designed and implemented a feature standardizing and contextualizing financial data across multiple dimensions (e.g. MTD, YTD, QTD) from various customer data sources Handled many high-priority, high-value “Fast Track” tickets for current and prospective customers ### Software Engineer I, II, III @ Dealerware Jan 2020 – Jan 2024 Collaborated with stakeholders for large fullstack features, leading architecture and development efforts Led a team in developing a full-stack, multi-tenant data visualization tool, saving $100k/yr and attracting new customers Created multiple Hackathon projects that are used daily to streamline production user data changes and improve PDF form mapping Created a bash CI tool to allow near-immediate releasing, which improved the release cadence from a few times a week to a few times a day Managed a refactor of our backend code that reduced test runtime for all developers by 15%, reduced test runtime for our team’s suite by 80%, and removed over 4,000 lines of dead code Utilized Datadog tracing to improve API response time for some features by ~10x Managed integration testing standards and advocated for quality test suites across the organization Participated in weekly pair/team programming sessions and daily PR review sessions Revamped onboarding process to expedite ramp-up and assisted multiple new hires in onboarding Coordinated a monthly “Lightning Talk” meeting with both technical and non-technical speakers ### Barista @ The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | Austin, TX Worked with a team in a high-pressure, high-speed environment that demands perfection Interacted with customers to take their orders and provide efficient, courteous service Pay high attention to detail to ensure that orders are correct and everything is clean Work environment necessitated staying calm and focused even if stress levels are very high (terminated due to COVID-19) ### Software Engineer Intern @ Blackbaud Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 For my second summer at Blackbaud, I was put on an Agile team with full-time devs to work on their "Receipt Manager" product. My work spanned the whole tech stack (Angular to Java backend which communicates with our databases), but I my focus was more on front-end development. My largest story was a major refactor of our settings page, removing all modal interactions so that it could be embedded directly within our main SPA, as opposed to being a separate page. I also implemented a filtering system so that users could choose to see which receipt records to look at, as opposed to being presented with them all at once. Lastly, I made changes to our testing suite that made the tests run up to 20% faster. ### Software Engineer Intern @ Blackbaud Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | Austin, Texas Area At Blackbaud, I worked on an Agile team with other full-time developers on new “Social Posting” SPA. My tasks spanned UX, Angular front-end, and Java backend layers. While at Blackbaud, I added start-to-finish user flow for removing a Facebook account that they had connected to the service, which involved adding and calling an API endpoint, then removing the associated account token from our database. I also conducted manual and automated accessibility testing across our entire application to ensure that it is completely accessible and easy to use for all users. Outside of development work, I delivered bi-weekly demo presentations to the Austin engineering team (~75 people) about what our team achieved in the last two weekly sprints. ### Program Director @ TimberTeach at Cedar Park High S Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 Timber Teach was a volunteer tutoring organization put together at my high school by a few student leaders and a teacher sponsor. We started the organization in September, and by the end of the semester, we had 80 volunteer student tutors in almost every subject assisting students all throughout our campus of over 2000 students. The student leaders would connect available tutors with students who requested tutoring during our biweekly study hall period. ### Intern @ National Instruments Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | Austin, Texas Area I participated in an internship program with my school district where only 75 students from the school were chosen to participate in a 1-week internship at a participating company. I interned at National Instruments, where we participated in difficult group projects, talked to current employees about their jobs, and received training in how to interview. ### Independent Database Analyst @ theACCESSpartnership, l.p. Jan 2015 – Jan 2015 | Austin, Texas I worked to streamline and reorganize their database of over 4300 corporate contacts. Each contact had 12 associated data points (such as company name, location, etc.) that required verification through extensive research. I also created and implemented systems to ensure that there were no typos or duplicates in the database. ## Education ### Bachelor's degree in Computer Science The University of Texas at Austin ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/dallas-torkelson - GitHub: https://github.com/deantorkelson --- Source: https://flows.cv/dallastorkelson JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/dallastorkelson/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-13
