# Dan Burger > Software Engineer II at Samsara Location: Denver, Colorado, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/danburger I am an experienced Software Engineer who loves solving complex problems with software solutions. After graduating from Purdue University with a Bachelors of Science (B.S.) in Computer Engineering, and two solid internship experiences under my belt, I started my career with Lockheed Martin. There I supported a satellite data distribution team working in C++ and Python to maintain and enhance mission critical features. I led an improvement feature on our use of the Elastic Logstash Kibana (ELK) stack for data warehousing of status and metric data on our distributed system. I continued to grow my skills and experienced the full software development lifecycle with developing customer facing web tools and containerized client software. I am a fast learner. Right before my 1 year anniversary at Lockheed Martin, I was promoted from Level 1 to Level 2 Software Engineer for providing quantitative value by working on new features, fixing critical bugs, and maintaining clarity and conciseness in not only my code, but my documentation and technical presentations to customers too. I strive in technical communication, and have leveraged this skill in my mentoring of junior engineers, cross communicating with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders, and presenting technical demos for customers. I believe that the ability to communicate your ideas is much more important, and greatly compliments, my ability to solve technical challenges. I currently hold a Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information Security Clearance (TS/SCI Security Clearance) ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer II @ Samsara Jan 2024 – Present | Denver, Colorado, United States ### Software Engineer II @ Lockheed Martin Jan 2022 – Jan 2024 | Boulder, Colorado, United States - Designed and implemented a feature for Docker containerized software to deploy and run on 700+ customer machines to achieve a more secure, reliable and scalable satellite data distribution architecture over secure TCP and SFTP connections. Integrated client software with rsyslog, ZooKeeper, and Qpid - Developed a website using Django to allow hundreds of customers to request off-cycle changes to their connection configuration, saving our site operators the time and effort to implement these changes themselves. Used Nginx as a reverse proxy and to allow secure HTTP connection - Improved the validation process of 500+ configuration files in an XML database by writing an XML parser in Python, catching 20+ customer connection errors and saving the team 10+ hours of faulty manual validation every month when changes are entered - Showcased 5 technical demos for system status GUIs with Kibana and Docker containerized client software in a test environment to stakeholders and customers for the final signoff and completion of 5 major features ### Software Engineer Associate @ Lockheed Martin Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | Boulder, Colorado, United States - Headed performance improvement initiative on our Elastic Stack to reduce storage size of Elasticsearch database by 25% and optimized data lifecycle for 60% less indices and 80% faster database queries. Automated setup with Ansible - Maintained and enhanced mission critical features in C++ and Python by conducting code reviews, writing unit tests for 90% coverage, developing automated tests, and collaborated with site operators for 4 software releases ### Software Engineer Intern @ Buildout, Inc. Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | Chicago, Illinois, United States - Built an HTTP Ruby on Rails web service to connect a mature Ruby on Rails codebase to Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter’s RESTful APIs allowing customers to interact with their social media - Designed the front end UX/UI using React and Bootstrap to create a positive customer experience while they interact with the web service while collaborating with the Design Team and Head of Engineering ### Electronics and Payload Intern @ Northrop Grumman Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | Melbourne, Florida Area - Investigated Docker in a Linux environment for use in running 200+ tests in parallel to cut down on test execution time and isolate environment breaking test failures - Integrated Docker into existing Jenkins testing architecture using Dockerfiles and Docker Compose ## Education ### Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering Purdue University ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/danrburger --- Source: https://flows.cv/danburger JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/danburger/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-29
