# Dan Fan > Founding Engineer at Bridge Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/danfan When I was child, I loved to draw, but I wasn't particularly artistic. My favorite toys were Legos, but I grew out of them. Eventually, I came to the realization that I wasn't attracted to Art or Legos intrinsically, but I was enthralled by the feeling of creating something out of nothing. Now, I get this same rush of excitement every time I start a new project or feature. I cannot understate the joy I get in planning out and executing a well-structured project. However, building just anything or building rashly and superficially isn't very interesting. In this sense, I truly believe in the parity between theory and practice. Theory is nothingness without practice and practice is blind without theory. Likewise, I believe the planning of a project is just as important as the execution of it. My passion is programming - my adult Legos. ## Work Experience ### Founding Engineer @ Bridge Jan 2022 – Present First Hire, First Eng ### Engineering Manager @ Upstart Jan 2020 – Jan 2022 ### Engineering Manager - Crypto @ Coinbase Jan 2018 – Jan 2020 • Led the team responsible for adding and maintaining new cryptocurrencies, which allowed the company to earn hundreds of millions in revenue and bring billions of dollars in assets under custody • Led company wide efforts for numerous network and protocol upgrades • Supported Finance in quarterly audits, as well as, passing SOC1/2 controls • Grew a team of Software Engineers from 6 to 12 ### Senior -Software Engineer @ Coinbase Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 | San Francisco Bay Area • Helped the company support its first new cryptocurrency in almost two years and laying the groundwork for many more • Tech led the Company’s ability to support ERC-20 Tokens (ZRX, OMG, DAI, REP, MKR, etc...) and optimized it to a 1-click process • Multi-Signature Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash Wallet support ### Senior Software Engineer @ Riviera Partners Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 | San Francisco Bay Area - Worked on an Active Record / Grape based stack (similar to Rails) - Used ElasticSearch for expensive and text based queries / aggregates - Optimized expensive queries with the help of NewRelic - Implemented a notification engine for realtime chat with nested channels - Refactored older code with OOP patterns to increase efficiency, consistency and readability - Provided mentorship to other developers ### Senior Software Engineer @ Everbridge Jan 2015 – Jan 2016 - Lead of the Community App (https://onebridge.nixle.com) - Wrote Front-End Architecture in Backbone.js - Currently writing all the backend (Ruby on Rails) - Backend serves a web app, iOS and Android application - TDD, ~1/3 of the code are tests - Daily releases and larger releases ### Software Developer @ Everbridge Jan 2014 – Jan 2015 - Lead Developer of the Community Application - Ruby on Rails and Backbone.js ### Software Developer @ Nixle, LLC Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 | San Francisco - Worked on a Ruby on Rails and backbone.js stack developing: https://onebridge.nixle.com - Wrote all of the JavaScript (backbone) of the above 1-page app - Also worked 2 months optimizing a Django stack ### Silicon Valley Chapter Board of Directors and Chair of Youth Executive Board @ American Red Cross Jan 2006 – Jan 2007 | Palo Alto, CA • Met monthly with leaders from other factions of the Red Cross, concerning various logistical, financial, and political aspects of the Chapter. • Led weekly Youth Board meetings, which governed over twenty local high school clubs totaling over four hundred members.
