# Daniel Amara > Senior Design Director, Ex-Google, Ex-Fitbit Location: San Francisco Bay Area, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/danielamara I’m a staff/principal product designer with deep experience designing software across mobile, web, and embedded platforms, especially in complex, cross-functional environments where the product is part of a larger system. I’ve led design for platforms used by millions (Fitbit, Google, Upwork), including consumer apps, real-time operating systems, and data-driven tools. Whether it’s a mobile health companion, a design system spanning thousands of screens, or a constrained interface on custom hardware, I design for clarity and help teams deliver thoughtful, durable work. My sweet spot is where UX meets large systems: designing for edge cases, technical constraints, and human unpredictability all at once. I believe the best interfaces are quietly intelligent — not just usable, but grounded, resilient, and hard to break. I operate at a staff/principal level, though always hands-on, often owning strategy, systems, and execution in parallel. I work best with engineers and PMs who want a sharp partner, not just a wireframer. Currently open to IC and management roles where I can contribute to strong cross-functional teams solving meaningful product problems — whether in consumer tech, productivity tools, AI, or infrastructure UX. ## Work Experience ### Principal Director UX @ DrumWave Inc. Jan 2025 – Present | Mountain View, California, United States ### VP of User Experience Design @ Movano Inc. Jan 2022 – Jan 2023 | California, United States At Movano Health, I led user experience for the Evie Ring, a women-first iOS-connected wearable designed to challenge the gaps in health tech, focusing on sleep, cardiovascular health, and menstrual wellness. I joined as VP of UX to bring the product from unstable prototypes to a real, shipped offering. Working alongside the SVP of Product, VP of Engineering, and CTO, I created and executed a strategic design plan that unified our efforts across software, hardware, and data science. I hired and managed a cross-functional UX team of nine, spanning interaction design, UX research, motion, and content. We built and launched a fully featured iOS mobile application, including onboarding, vitals tracking, sleep metrics, and insights across four pillars of wellness. I directed the creation of our net-new design system, built for iOS and ready for Android, with full accessibility support. One of my most impactful contributions was designing a scientifically grounded super metric that helped users understand whether they had achieved an optimal balance of activity and recovery, validated through three research studies. I also partnered with our CTO and Head of Data Science to initiate AI/ML-based health insights, surfacing correlations across activity, sleep, menstrual, and heart health based on cohort analysis. Additionally, I led UX and human factors research in support of our FDA submission for medical device clearance. ### UX Design Lead/Manager, Wearables @ Google Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 | San Francisco Bay Area At Google, I served as Lead UX Designer for Fitbit’s integration on the first Pixel Watch, a landmark effort to bring Fitbit’s health experience to Google’s hardware and Wear OS platform. I joined at the start of the project and stayed through launch prep, with the product shipping shortly after I left. I led a 13-person UX team spanning interaction, visual, motion, content, and research, and partnered across product, engineering, and OS teams. One of my key contributions was adapting the Fitbit design system to fit Google’s Wear OS—rethinking layout, interactions, and visual behaviors for a round screen and new inputs. We introduced several net-new experiences, including a heart rate graph as a customizable Tile, and refined how Fitbit’s core metrics would live on non-Fitbit hardware for the first time. Beyond the immediate launch, I was also the sole designer on an internal advanced concepts team charged with envisioning the future of wearable hardware. Though short-lived, the team laid foundational ideas for future device exploration across multiple Google orgs. ### Ux Design Lead/Manager, Devices @ Fitbit Jan 2017 – Jan 2021 | San Francisco Bay Area Led a team of eleven designers creating Fitbit’s tracker and smartwatch operating systems, including its productivity, health features, and AI features.
