# Daniel Au > Engineer at Yurts AI Location: San Francisco, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/danielau I'm a backend software engineer at Yurts AI in downtown San Francisco. When I'm not working, I'm usually rock climbing, taking photos, reading, weightlifting, and most importantly, eating. ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Yurts AI Jan 2023 – Present | San Francisco, California, United States ### Staff Software Engineer @ Primer.ai Jan 2021 – Jan 2023 Staff Backend Things ### Senior Software Engineer @ Primer.ai Jan 2021 – Jan 2021 Senior Backend Things ### Software Engineer II @ Primer.ai Jan 2020 – Jan 2021 Midlevel Backend Things ### Software Engineer @ Primer.ai Jan 2019 – Jan 2020 | San Francisco Bay Area Junior Backend Things ### Software Engineer Intern @ Facebook Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | Seattle I worked on the Dataswarm infrastructure team and my project was parallelizing a process that compiled task dependencies from workflow files. I started by first collecting metrics on the process to determine that parallelizing the process would be successful and what the expected speedup would be. When that was successful, I found a way to partition the workflow files across the clusters of machines and aggregate the output. In addition, I added error checking logic for each child process. Eventually, I brought the runtime down by 65% and allowed for future horizontal scaling. ### Software Engineer Intern @ Amazon Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | Seattle I interned on the Kindle Fire Tablet team and worked on caching for the storefront page. I enabled caching so that reloading the page within a cache's expire time would automatically load from the cache. In addition, I designed a custom Etag for validation so that if the page had not changed even after the cache expired, it could be loaded from the cache. In addition, I generalized the caching technique with aspect oriented programming architecture so that it could be used for other pages. ### Software Engineer Intern @ Cisco Meraki Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 | San Francisco Bay Area I worked on the Systems Manager Team and implemented the Managed App Setting Feature. ### Quality Assurance Engineer Intern @ MobiTV Jan 2015 – Jan 2015 | Emeryville, California As a quality assurance engineer intern, I mainly developed automated JUnit scripts for phones and tablets to reduce manual testing. These scripts checked the UI/UX of the applications and ensured the mobile app was receiving and displaying the correct JSON objects from servers. In addition, I executed longevity/reliability testing of a media dongle through automated testing and manually tested the general functionality of media dongle (connectivity, pairing, streaming). ### Research Assistant / Front End Web Developer @ Stanford University Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 | Stanford University As a research assistant, I worked with a professor and graduate students to determine how technology could be utilized in daily life to improve health and hygiene. I ensured that the experiments tested the correct variables and the collected data was related to human behavior. As the front end web developer, I designed webpages for mobile application using HTML, CSS, Javascript, and JQuery. ## Education ### Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Applied Mathematics University of California, Berkeley ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/danielau94 --- Source: https://flows.cv/danielau JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/danielau/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-10
