# Daniel Goldstein > Software Engineer at Temporal Technologies Location: Boston, Massachusetts, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/danielgoldstein ## Work Experience ### Software Engineer @ Temporal Technologies Jan 2024 – Present | Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States Working on the Infrastructure Foundations team to improve the reliability, scalability and security of Temporal Cloud ### Senior Software Engineer @ Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard Jan 2023 – Jan 2024 On the Hail (hail.is) team, I contributed to an open source analytical database system for petabyte-scale genomic data. Specifically, I worked on the compute infrastructure to provide scientists with a serverless, multi-tenant platform for analysis that is fast, cheap and easy to use. Some of the fun projects I got to work on include: • Digging into container runtime internals to achieve <80ms container startup times for interactive pipeline prototyping • Developing infrastructure as code to allow anyone to deploy the Hail system on both GCP and Azure • Adding a monitoring stack and establishing practices for performance work on the system • Integrating the Hail system into data platforms like Terra for easier deployment and broader adoption • Mentoring co-op students and computational biologists in contributing to our project at all levels of the stack, from monitoring and performance to adding GPUs ### Software Engineer @ Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard Jan 2022 – Jan 2023 ### Associate Software Engineer @ Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard Jan 2021 – Jan 2022 ### Demand Engineering Intern @ Slack Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 • Contributed Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) Stapling to Envoy, an open source proxy and load balancer, to improve security for Slack client connections and the broader Envoy community • Developed an Envoy filter to detect and standardize error responses across the Slack architecture ### Visiting Student Researcher @ University of Oxford Jan 2020 – Jan 2020 | Oxford, United Kingdom • Developed efficient algorithms for processing genetic variation data in the open source toolkit, tskit, that leverages tree sequences to infer species trees at record speeds • Optimized low-level routines in the genetic simulator msprime • Conducted performance experiments against state-of-the-art genetic simulators for use in the msprime 1.0 paper ### Software Engineering Co-op - Hail Team @ Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard Jan 2019 – Jan 2019 | Greater Boston Area • Developed distributed linear algebra infrastructure in Python/Scala/C++ for the hail compiler to enable scalable machine learning in genomic research and other big data applications • Implemented efficient compilation strategies in Scala/C++ to improve distributed query engine performance • Interfaced with computational biologists for user support and planning of new features ### Teaching Assistant for Fundamentals of Computer Science I @ Northeastern University College of Computer and Information Science Jan 2017 – Jan 2018 | Boston, MA • Taught lab sections for beginner students learning program design and functional programming practices • Held office hours for students seeking help on homework assignments • Managed tutors and graders who provide feedback on students’ assignments ### Full Stack Developer Co-op @ PowerAdvocate Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | Greater Boston Area • Built a Spring web application to automate custom report generation for the customer support team • Collaborated on the design of an Ansible framework to achieve continuous delivery across all software products • Designed a process to aggregate client data from Salesforce and serve it to internal users • Presented at biweekly sprint reviews on my scrum team’s completed features and progress ### Software Engineering Intern @ Skylink Technology Inc. Jan 2017 – Jan 2017 | Hamilton, NJ • Improved the efficiency of an interface unit written in C for the Raytheon KIV-7M for encrypted satellite communications • Achieved a 2x speedup compared to existing software • Configured an Apache server to mimic KIV-7M interactions to facilitate easier in-house testing ### Undergraduate Researcher @ Northeastern University Computer Architecture Research Laboratory Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 | 140 Fenway, Boston MA, 02115 • Contributed to a project on parallel algorithms for image processing in C++ using NVIDIA’s CUDA platform • Analyzed the performance impacts of dynamic parallelism when applied to level-set segmentation • Presented a poster on dynamic parallelism findings at Northeastern RISE 2016 ### Assistant Instructor @ The Mercer County Park Commission Jan 2015 – Jan 2016 Assisted and substituted for professional tennis coaches in delivering instructional classes for all age groups and skill levels. I handled transactions and administrative assignments while at the desk and trained new employees. ### Student Researcher @ Waksman Institute of Microbiology Jan 2015 – Jan 2016 | Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey Performed PCR, gel electrophoresis and other laboratory investigations on my individual bacterial clone containing plasmids with DNA from Landoltia Punctata. I analyzed the resultant DNA sequence and modeled the encoded protein, culminating in the submission of the expressed sequence tag analysis to the National Center for Biotechnology Information database. ## Education ### Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Computer Science Northeastern University ### High School Robbinsville High School ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/daniel--goldstein --- Source: https://flows.cv/danielgoldstein JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/danielgoldstein/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-31
