# David Baylies > Software Engineer at Eventide Communications Location: New York, New York, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/davidbaylies David is an engineer and musician currently living in the New York City area. He has done work in spatial audio, new instrument design, and sound design, focusing especially on applications to virtual reality. By combining his technical abilities with his musical sensibilities, he is able to craft his engineering projects from the perspective of a musician. ## Work Experience ### Senior Software Engineer @ Eventide Communications Jan 2026 – Present | Brooklyn, New York, United States Architect and Maintain software applications for: - High-volume audio and video pipelines - Critical communication between distributed systems, both on-premise and in the cloud - 3rd party data integrations - Archival to network-attached storage, as well as physical media ### Software Engineer @ Eventide Communications Jan 2025 – Jan 2026 | Brooklyn, New York, United States Build and maintain C++ audio frameworks for mission-critical recording hardware. ### Software Engineer @ Eventide Jan 2018 – Jan 2025 | Little Ferry, New Jersey I performed audio software and hardware engineering tasks, including but not limited to CAD modelling, PCB design, GUI development, and DSP engineering. ### Studio Monitor @ New York University Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | Greater New York City Area At NYU, I ensured the orderly lending and return of music technology studio equipment. I also studied and experimented with equipment in order to best assist studio users, as well as further my own education. ### Electronic Trumpet Designer @ Boston University Jan 2016 – Jan 2017 | Greater Boston Area For about a year, I worked at BU to design and prototype an electronic trumpet that would allow trumpet players to access synthesized tones using their trumpet technique. Using C++, I programmed a Teensy 3.2 microcontroller to interpret audio and valve position inputs, outputting a MIDI stream representative of the musicians intentions. I also designed and manufactured an acoustically insulated chamber for a trumpet mouthpiece. You can find much more information on this project at Stella's website: https://www.openstella.com/ ### Learning Assistant @ Boston University Jan 2016 – Jan 2016 | Greater Boston Area While studying at BU, I worked for two semesters as a learning assistant, helping static mechanics students work through difficult problem sets. This position not only gave me a more solid understanding of the subject material, but also showed me how to best empathize and communicate with others. ### Researcher @ Boston University Jan 2015 – Jan 2015 I collaborated with other members of our mechanical design subteam to design and build 10 small autonomous boats. These boats will be able to communicate with a remote computer to track and pursue a moving undersea object. ### Kindergarten Aide @ Atkinson Elementary School Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 I worked with children to improve their understanding of simple mathematical operations, as well as develop their reading skills. I also helped kindergarten teachers with any necessary tasks, including taking over for classroom activities and moving around the classroom during group activities to help any struggling students. ## Education ### Master's degree in Music Technology New York University Jan 2017 – Jan 2020 ### Bachelor of Engineering - BE in Mechanical Engineering Boston University Jan 2013 – Jan 2017 ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/david-baylies - Website: https://www.openstella.com/ - Website: https://davidbaylies.com/ --- Source: https://flows.cv/davidbaylies JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/davidbaylies/resume.json Last updated: 2026-04-01
