# David Carter > Software Engineer Location: San Francisco, California, United States Profile: https://flows.cv/davidcarter I'm a software engineer especially interested in the JAMstack. I use React frameworks like GatsbyJS and NextJS paired with different APIs and CMS options such as WordPress, Contentful, and Netlify CMS to deliver accessible, modular, and efficient websites. ## Work Experience ### Staff Software Engineer @ Eaze Jan 2023 – Jan 2025 | San Francisco, CA Led frontend architecture for a high-traffic, SEO-driven consumer website built with React and TypeScript using Next.js, focusing on performance, experimentation, and scalable frontend systems. Mentored senior-level engineers on frontend architecture, performance optimization, accessibility, and maintainable CSS patterns, raising overall engineering quality. Identified and prioritized key areas of technical debt and scalability risk, shaping the engineering roadmap through high-impact technical initiatives. Established best practices for error handling, observability, logging, and frontend reliability across multiple teams. Partnered closely with product, design, and backend teams to deliver high-impact user-facing features and improve overall user experience. Improved developer experience through better tooling, documentation, and standardized frontend patterns. Improved site performance and Core Web Vitals through bundle & image optimization, font loading strategy, and third-party script management. ### Senior Software Engineer @ Eaze Jan 2021 – Jan 2023 | San Francisco, California, United States Led development of category-based shopping pages, increasing product visibility and contributing to conversion gains. Rolled out a third-party feature-flag system across multiple teams, enabling controlled launches, experimentation, and data-informed product decisions. Extended the platform from a single-state to multi-state experience, expanding business reach. Modernized the frontend by introducing TypeScript and migrating from class-based to functional React components. ### Software Engineer @ Eaze Jan 2019 – Jan 2021 | San Francisco, CA Implemented automated third-party integrations by building frontend components and a supporting micro-service to securely verify users, populate profile data, and replace a manual review workload while improving onboarding speed and fraud prevention. Improved site performance and Core Web Vitals through bundle & image optimization, font loading strategy, and third-party script management. Interviewed and onboarded new engineers, contributing to team growth and knowledge sharing across multiple engineering teams. ### CMS Engineer @ Eaze Jan 2018 – Jan 2019 | San Francisco, CA Consolidated multiple WordPress instances into a unified headless CMS architecture consumed by a Next.js frontend. Rebuilt marketing and content pages (About Us, Careers, landing pages, etc.) using Next.js and modern frontend best practices. Improved SEO performance, organic search visibility, and page speed of high-traffic content pages through Next.js architecture and frontend optimizations. Developed custom WordPress plugins integrating CMS workflows with internal APIs and services. Partnered with design and marketing teams to improve content publishing workflows and user experience. Assisted in large-scale frontend upgrades including dependency modernization and package updates. ### Wordpress Developer @ PR Hacker Jan 2018 – Jan 2018 | San Francisco, California, United States Brought best practices of the industry to the tech stack by replacing SFTP management with git and CI deployment, and moving internal WordPress sites to the Roots stack. Created Proof of Concepts for using internal WordPress sites as a headless CMS using Gatsby. ### Director Of Technical Services @ Tribeswell LLC Jan 2016 – Jan 2018 | Bloomington, Indiana Area I was the sole technical employee where I developed and maintained over 100 websites. This involved planning technical specifications with new clients to managing hosting and debugging security vulnerabilities for ongoing clients. To reduce resources spent across using multiple, different hosting environments, I operated a massive migration towards Digital Ocean droplets where I could manage dozens of WordPress websites on a single instance. This included managing DNS records, installing threat detections to alert in Slack, and adding security measures to every droplet. ### WordPress Developer @ Tribeswell LLC Jan 2015 – Jan 2016 | Bloomington, Indiana Area I developed and designed dozens of fast, secure, modular, and responsive websites on the WordPress platform using custom themes and plugins. I maintained our in-house custom theme which included migrating from Grunt to Gulp and improving both to optimize CSS, JS, and image pipelines. I also added the ability to deploy new websites and any changes through Git and CodeShip. ### Application Developer @ Tribeswell LLC Jan 2014 – Jan 2015 My first task at Tribeswell was to solely develop a hybrid app on the Ionic framework. I used Angular v1 along with Firebase to produce an app on the iOS App Store and Android Google Play Store. In what was essentially Tinder For Groups (they released the feature as soon as I had finished), users were signed up and logged in through Facebook where they were able to create groups of up to five of their FB friends. The app would then determine the gender of the group based on member profiles as either Male, Female, or Mixed. Group creators could then select the gender of groups they wished to be shown, and all members could swipe left or right on groups up to 25 miles away. Once groups connected, I created private chat rooms between each group along with a group-only chat room. ### Mathematics Tutor @ Campus Tutoring Service Jan 2013 – Jan 2015 | Bloomington, Indiana Area Conducted hour-long private tutoring sessions for Indiana University students enrolled in Finite Mathematics, Brief Survey of Calculus, Precalculus, and Calculus I & II. Maintained a high rebooking rate and retained several students throughout the semester and some over multiple semesters. ### Front End Web Development Intern @ Hanapin Marketing Jan 2014 – Jan 2014 Worked under the lead developer and collaborated with a designer on a Ruby on Rails application to develop the front-end for a paid subscription service of PPC tools. Gained experience with A/B testing using tools such as Optimizely and Crazy Egg. ## Contact & Social - LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/dajocarter --- Source: https://flows.cv/davidcarter JSON Resume: https://flows.cv/davidcarter/resume.json Last updated: 2026-03-22
